September 20, 2015 at 4:26 am in reply to: Import Vegas Pro project into Final Cut Pro XExport as Sony XML files in Sony render dialog. Final Cut Pro reads that file just fine. I don’t use the FCPX XML export. I’m on a iMac that has Vegas Pro 13 on Bootcamp. I have been running this workflow for over year. Except the file will come in as a complete edited video.
That’s how I get the final file to render and export for ProRes 422. And, send this final file to TV channels.
Once I get the XML from Sony template. You can import into FCP X or Compressor for final edit. -

July 1, 2015 at 6:21 am in reply to: Sony Vegas Pro 12, visable difference between ProRes 422HQ and DNxHDI’d found a better way. Quicktime Avid DNxHD was my old workflow. I could say… I’m in the same boat that you are in. Except, I’m now rendering to Sony 422 MXF. This is on my iMAC.
Once you render that MXF file. You can import into Compressor or Sony Catalyst on a Mac.
And transcode to ProRes 422 HQ. This way you don’t lose any quality. Both programs can adjust color correction if need be. Sony Catalyst is the free program. Apple Compressor is $99.

Look at your sensor. And use a blow gun to remove the debris. Before every shoot we always blow out the sensor and lens before every production the night before.

June 24, 2015 at 11:22 pm in reply to: just bought a 5d mark III – was that a mistake ?You have to film it in Slog2 mode. To get that Cinematic look. Then you need to color grade in DaVinci Resolve or Sony Catalyst products.
Also, I have Final Cut Pro X. But I’m using Sony Vegas Pro soft contrast effect. Their you have it, your film look and you can control the look.
Actually you want to film in the highest and sharpest quality you can get. Then go in post to edit and grade.

Yes Steve. Pro Res is basically a differ favor of Quicktime.
Also, It’s consider the standard for broadcaster. -
Well I’m just like John Rofrano. I’d run Sony Vegas on my Mac for over two years and Vegas runs beautifully. I’d have everything on my Mac except FCP X. I’m using Motion 5 and Compressor. Within this year I’m thinking about changing over due to the TV stations internationally wants Pro Res 422 as the final format.
Yes, I can delivery Avid DN x HD. They think Pro Res 422 holds up better re-editing.
In addition, don’t want to give up on Vegas. Because I have invest into too many Vegas plug ins.

By the way. I have Sony A 7s. So far I’m filming and using HD format right now. The look in HD is incredible. I got the camera the first week it came out. Yes, indeed it kills Canon 5D 3 in sharpness and price.
As far as film look. I’d create that in post. The OLED EVF is really critical on making sure you are in focus.
Because when you start filming in 4k. You will notice the different. My associate have 7D and 5D focus is a problem with both cameras.
