y’all are inspiring confidence by the gallon (keeping fire extinguisher and plastic surgeon on speed dial!)

Thanks! (I should have said the poles barely go through the diffuser….which is why I wanted to make sure that the diffuser didn’t go over the top as it seemed to fit better and be more secure that way, versus having the egg crate over the diffuser)
-
Not really….as it doesn’t answer the question of “if you’re supposed to use a diffuser AND an egg crate how the heck do you do it…” (given the poles needed to attach the light to the egg crate don’t go through the diffuser…and the photos on the Lowell site don’t show a diffuser over the egg crate)

Ha! Yeah, the pricing on these suckers is interesting..
The 30 is $210
The 40 is $173
The 50 is $151I guess it makes sense…the 30 has more cells (and blocks more light – and ‘focuses’ it to a tighter area) but that is a huge price difference (especially between the 30 and 40 as it’s twice that of the 40 to 50). Which makes one (well me) wonder if the 30 is so much more expensive due to the amount of material…or if there is a perceived extra value/desire for that specific angle.

Which Egg Crate angle have you found to be the most useful in a real world interview situation (given the price…and the $50 difference between the 50 and the 30…)

It’s never ending, this purchasing of equipment 🙂 And you forgot reflectors…and backdrops…and…and…and…
As I have a series of shoots in a windowless office, this is going to come in handy in a big way

Thanks for the lesson – which makes perfect sense and matches (and expands upon) what I had thought. As it ended up being an EX and thus already ‘upgraded’ (and indeed had fluorescents included) I bit the bullet and will be having fun lighting any and everything in my apartment for practice next week I’m sure…
(and then comes the ‘guess I need to bite the bullet and get an egg crate’ realization, I’m sure…)

Thanks for the clarification. Somewhere else had mentioned that putting the smaller wattage light from the 44 into the larger 55 resulted in a softer effect, which I assumed would be due to a larger reflective area/smaller amount of light not producing as sharp an ‘edge’…

Thanks! Some gems (and things not found in searches)
Thanks for making the learning curve less steep

July 18, 2012 at 9:07 pm in reply to: Switching from FCP to Premiere Pro 6 – need advice on Boris products for transitionsWell if that’s the case (and as I…um…have a version of Red 3.0.2 I purchased in 2005 and never got around to fully appreciating) I might as well simply upgrade my Red.
While we’re on the subject of “money I spent and never properly utilized….” I also have Boris Continuum Complete 4.0 that could be upgraded. Is there any benefit (or does Red cover all of those bases as well?) Going over the product comparison chart makes it appear that 90% of the filters, etc. from BCC are in Red…
Thanks for not judging 🙂
