Thank you John, i understand now how the AVC works. What are the advantages to using AVC or AVCHD compared to using FFDshow (Xvid)? Appart from the fact that FFDshow has a lot of parameters that can be pretty confusing?

I do apologize for my rather bluntly formed question, Daniel (and all the rest of you watching!). Being rather an intuitive problem solver myself i tend to focus on the point i think is the problem, and forget explaining things around it like the program version, codec version, OS and so on. Anyway, i did solve the problem easily by just importing my settings for FFDshow from another program =) So, it was a setting issue, not a codec issue.

I have problems using SONY AVC for some reason. I don’t know if it’s because i’m using Windows XP or if i’ve messed up my codecs by installing previous programs. I will try to get AVC working (right now it only lets me render files that are two clips long), but is there another codec that will do the trick? I noticed that XVID Mpeg-4 looks as good as AVC, but the files are a loot bigger. Any suggestions?

Hi John! Well i’m really doing two different things. I usually want to make HD clips for Youtube, which is why i’ve been going for formats with small file sizes, like Xvid/Mpeg4. But i also want to render “Top quality” larger files to be viewed on a computer; concerts i film and even private videos like bithday parties. For now. I don’t know what my output target will be in the future =) I haven’t given any thought to which format i should use to make a DVD or BluRay disc for instance.
