I understand, and suffer through this all the time. It’s painful. I’ve started leaving the Event Viewer open, (even though in its current iteration, it pretty useless to me) and that seems to help with the problem.

Avid did. I’m not sure how you would shoot with a GoPro and create an alpha on the fly so there would be no reason for GoPro to think of that, unless they’re going to start building keyers into their cameras.

Then do it. Set up your project to use LT, import your native footage and cut away! Where’s the problem?
“Sure, you can do it that way, but it’s less elegant. Why not have pop-up list next to the Proxy button allowing selection of the desired codec for Proxy mode. Then you could use ProRes Proxy, and I can use LT. I’m cutting multicam stuff shot at ProRes 4444 and I’d rather cut it in LT rather than 4444 or Proxy. I can do an external convert, but why not be able to take advantage of a smoother self-contained workflow. Nothing wrong with that.

Well, I don’t edit in proxy mode if I have titles from our graphics guy. And this is not for finishing. And we don’t use Motion. The nicest fix would be for Apple to allow an alpha channel in all flavors of ProRes, but they’ve had plenty of time to accomplish that so I guess that won’t happen.

It is quite frustrating not to be able to choose what codecs you work with without resorting to external conversion. Even more frustrating? If you decide to give in and rough cut in the FCPX proxy mode, you lose the ability to work with quicktimes containing an alpha channel. Oops. I guess they weren’t planning for editors to receive motion graphics from AfterEffects artists! At least not while cutting in proxy mode.

You would lose the ability move a sequence from one machine to another, right?
