    Cameron,

Sound like moonlight to me. If you have $$$ then you want helium balloon lights (Airstar). If you have no $$$ then you must shoot day-for-night. Backlight the scene, underexpose and color it blue.

I believe it has to do with shortages of the SxS cards on which it’s being delivered.

I can see the option to select “User” LUTs in the LUT menu but so far have not seen any editing software or even operation guide for the upgrade. I’ve been told as you suggest that it’s been added to the Sony CVP File Editor Software (which I also found difficult and cludgie).

The menu contains two Hypergamma LUTs which seem to be the most useful.

Actually have three F3’s and two upgrades, so at this point there’s no need to move the options, but if I sent a camera out on rental and the client did not need the option I certainly would remove it.

I’m waiting (patiently) for two CD Geminis and will evaluate the need for a third upgrade and Gemini once they arrive. In the mean time, I could not be more pleased with the F3’s performance, even with the internal recording codec.

    Michael,

Yes, this seems to be a new capability supported by Sony; that you can unload the option back to an SxS card (password protected) and move it to another camera.

No, the A spigot is only two colors as is the B spigot. Only 422 S-Log output at the moment is at the HD-SDI output with LUT “off”, so you have no viewing with LUT.

    The card is SxS-32G1A’s.

June 14, 2011 at 12:40 am in reply to: HMI problems, please look at video

    Ben,

You’re at the right place, but you have a real mystery on your hands.

The symptom is that of a bad bulb, but as you know, there really is no definitive way of knowing if an HMI globe is bad, other than observing a visible crack or severe burn marks inside the globe.

For both to die on you at the same time is unusual, but not unheard of. If there was some rough treatment in transit (airplane travel?) it’s possible they both developed hairline cracks.

I’d try yet another (new) globe in each and see what happens.

  • Ian,

OK, Michael’s instructions (above) straightened me out, but you should know that they were not what Sony Support told me yesterday and they were not able to tell me today.

This should definitely be in the release notes for users and your own support staff to know, and makes me wonder what other voodoo I’ll need to know to activate and use other upgraded features.
