After you mark the In and Out points, you need to use Shift+Q to highlight that selection. Then sue Ctrl+X to delete it or Ctrl+T to keep it and delete what’s outside the selection.

Here is the key sequence you need:

1) PLAY
No need to Play if you are going to Skip to the selection you want.

3) MARK
I to mark the In point

4) SKIP to :20
Ctrl+G :20 to Goto 00:00:00;20

5) MARK
O to mark the Out point

6) DELETE
Shift+Q to highlight the loop selection
Ctrl+X to delete the selection
F to Post-Ripple Edit (this will close the gap)

You could do one of the following:

• Trim both ends of the video using your mouse and move the resulting event back to the beginning of the timeline — OR —
• Mark the In and Out points and use Shift+Q to select the loop region and then use Ctrl+T to trim. Finally you need to move the event to the beginning of the timeline — OR —
• Split the event at the in and out point and delete the new events on either side and then move the event to the beginning of the timeline

You only need to do one of those.

Check to make sure that you don’t have any audio FX on the track and that the track’s volume is at 0dB FS. Vegas should not be doing anything to the audio unless you tell it to.

As far as copying the audio unaffected, I really don’t know how Vegas handles this internally. If your source and target are the same format and you didn’t add any FX you would think that it would just copy the audio but I’ve never asked nor read about how this is done internally.

Both the Chroma Key and Color Corrector (Secondary) have the ability to show the mask. You can then place the Mask Generator in the chain after this and get a “real” mask with transparency.

You can create the mask with an original piece of media on a separate track and composite them together.

I would get a new 4GB drive and copy everything off of it that you can while it’s still working. Once that’s done, you can reformat the drive and see if it was just a corrupt filesystem or if the physical drive was really going bad. Sometimes it can be one or the other or even both but getting your data off of it should be your primary concern.

You could try using Chroma Key to key on the isolated color and then reverse the matte so that it does the opposite (i.e., let only that color through)
