I would read page 67 of your User’s Manual about connecting this up to a computer. I believe is says that you have to have iLink ON (iLink is Sony’s marketing name for Firewire.) Also it sounds like EE Passthru might output via analog and not Firewire. Here is what the User’s Manual says:

Be sure to connect the i.LINK cable to the computer (editing machine) first and then connect it to the unit. If you connect the i.LINK cable to the unit first, it may cause the unit to malfunction because of static electricity.

• When the unit is connected to a computer equipped with an i.LINK jack and you intend to disconnect or reconnect the i.LINK cable, turn off the computer and pull out the plug of its power cord from the wall outlet beforehand. If you connect or disconnect the i.LINK cable while the computer is connected to the AC outlet, high-voltage current (8 to 40 V) is output from the i.LINK jack of the device to the unit, which may cause a malfunction.
• Before connecting the i.LINK cable, set [HDV/DV SEL] and [i.LINK SET] in the [IN/OUT REC] menu. If you perform the settings after connecting the cable, the computer (editing machine) may not recognize the unit correctly or may freeze.
• If you input or output signals in a format incompatible with the computer (editing machine), the computer may not recognize the unit correctly or may freeze.
• When set to EE mode, the unit outputs analog signals that are input from the HDV/DV jack to the computer. S VIDEO or VIDEO signals are output from the HDV/DV jack, according to the setting of the INPUT SELECT switch. To output the playback image from the unit through the HDV/DV jack only, set the INPUT SELECT switch to HDV/DV.

You really need to read the manual and understand how to configure the deck correctly before you plug it into your computer.

Hmmm… go to Options | Preferences | Video and uncheck the option that says: “Use external video capture application” and it should default to the internal HDV capture utility.

That’s as good as it gets. …and before you are disappointed, Final Cut Pro X doesn’t even tell you how long it took so if you want to compare rendering speeds you need a physical stop-watch! 🙁

You can make an MP4/H.264 50,000 kbps file using the Render Type:

MainConcept AVC/AAC with the Internet HD 1080p template.

Press the Customize Template button and under Variable bit rate change the Average (bps): to 50,000,000 in the drop down and save this as a new template and render with it. That should produce what you need.

So MAGIX has 2 consumer based NLE’s and 2 professional NLE’s with very similar names and features. And if that wasn’t confusing enough there is also:

Music Maker — Consumer based Music application created by MAGIX
Music Studio — Consumer based Music application created by Sony and bought by MAGIX

So you’re not the one one who is confused by all this.

Hmmm… It sounds like Movie Studio is trying to compete with iMovie on the Mac which has already had this capability for a long time and iMovie is only $14.99 USD.

Nobody knows the answer to your question because anyone who did know would be bound by a Non Disclosure Agreement. Since this is a Movie Studio 14 bundle and Vegas Pro 14 is already out… I’m going to guess that if you did see this bundled with Vegas Pro, it wouldn’t be until Vegas Pro 15.0.

It looks like you can just buy Vasco da Gama 10 HD from MotionStudios starting at 99,00 EUR if you really wanted it.

I wouldn’t call it “super insecure” because there is no security problem with the codecs themselves. It was only the QuickTime Player that has a security vulnerability that requires you download a specially created file from a malicious web site in order for it to affect you. There have been no reports of anyone exploiting this vulnerability so it is purely theoretical and completely avoidable by not using the QuickTime Player browser extension (which most people don’t use anyway).

I wouldn’t loose any sleep over it. There are 255 known security vulnerabilities and counting in Windows 10 and Microsoft keeps finding and patching more every month and it doesn’t stop anyone from using Windows 10.

Compared to Windows 10… QuickTime is like Fort Knox!

It does if you have QuickTime installed. Of course, it won’t if you don’t because movies made with QuickTime codecs need to have QuickTime installed.

It sounds like you don’t have QuickTime installed which its why After Effects can’t read your QuickTime files.

MAGIX Vegas Pro has a built-in ProRes encoder/decoder but it only works inside of Vegas Pro. For other programs that don’t have native QuickTime decoders, you need to have QuickTime installed.
