That does seem to be the problem. The error specifically says that it can’t find the Java class for quicktime/util/QTHandleRef. In looking at their web site, they do recommend that you install QuickTime for Java (whatever that is… I assume they give you that option when you install it). The version number is covered in your screen shot but from the CatDV web site, they recommend Java 7 for their latest version of LiveCapture Plus.
You might want to make sure that you have the latest version of LiveCapture and re-installing making sure that you also install all of the Java components. Since the web site gives you a link to download Java, and Mac OS X does not come with Java, it looks like you may need to be smart enough to find the right version of Java and download it yourself. You are looking for Java 1.7 (otherwise known as Java 7) but if you have a really old version of their software it may need Java 6.
I would contact CatDV for help.

For backing up entire partitions I use Carbon Copy Cloner. It looks like ChronoSync will do the same. I like to make bootable backups so that if something goes wrong I can boot from the external drive in a pinch. I agree that you should be careful not to use TimeMachine to back up two different OS X partitions.

It won’t confuse the computer because once you rename it, the OS will update any references to the new name. So I would rename the Snow Leopard disk while booted into Snow Leopard so that it’s fully aware of the change. The disk names are really just labels for the humans. Internally the computer uses device names like /dev/disk0, /dev/disk1 so the labels don’t matter much.

That is a common problem with video from a smart phone but FiLMiC Pro is supposed to eliminate that problem. I guess not. ☹
Since Lock&Load is not affected that might be your only solution. It’s a really nice stabilizer. I use it all the time.

Eudora? I use the Mac Mail client on all of my devices (Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iPad Pro 13″, & iPhone 6). I see no reason to use a 3rd party mail client. Maybe at one time there was a need, but today… not really. I have the same mail client on all of my devices. Eudora is no longer under development. It may have vulnerabilities that no one is going to fix! (and most computer hacks are perpetrated through email… just ask John Podesta) Eudora is dead. Let it go.
PageMaker? That was a “desktop publishing” app right? (lol – i’m joking I use to used it too back in the day) I’m pretty sure most word processors have the same capabilities. Apple Pages (now free) actually has a “page layout” mode (File –> Convert to Page Layout) that acts the same as a desktop publishing app allowing you to place “copy” and images anywhere on the page. Is it as full featured as PageMager? Probably not, but unless you are running a magazine (in which case you would probably be using Adobe In-Design anyway) you really don’t need it. Like Eudora, PageMaker is no longer under development. Let it go.
Photoshop CS2 we have already discussed in other threads. There is the totally awesome Affinity Photo, or Pixelmator (which is another great alternative) that can handle most/all of the tasks you probably use Photoshop CS2 for. These newer apps have far more features (like erasing foreground objects and magically filling in the background) that you might benefit from. I get that you might not need these features, but most photo editing apps are laid out the same and work pretty much the same so this shouldn’t be too big a learning curve.
Something to consider:
It is a different world out there today. Hackers are waging cyber wars. Do you really want to be running a 5 year old OS that has vulnerabilities that hackers can use to literally hold you hostage like the WannaCry ransomware that is encrypting Windows computers this week and requesting $300 in bitcoin to get your data back? Or do you want to be running a modern OS that is regularly patched to keep you safe from such criminals. This is not a theoretical discussion of someone “could” hack your computer… this is playing out this week all over the world and bringing government agencies to their knees because an astonishing number are still running the long abandoned Windows XP because they don’t want to change because they have old apps. This is the exact topic of this thread and something to very seriously consider.
I think the days of keeping an old Mac around to use an old program are numbered. Those computers should not be placed on a network that has internet access. It’s just getting too dangerous. There could be an exploit in an older version of Chrome that you are forced to use because of the age of your OS that will compromise the safety of the data on your Mac. Do you really want to risk that?
So for me there is only one direction and that’s move forward. As I said, I keep a Snow Leopard partition around to use DVD Studio Pro because there is no newer substitute. The entire industry has abandoned making DVD’s while the public is still demanding DVD’s so you are between “a rock and a hard place”. But other than running software for which there is no substitute, I would not risk it. Take the time to learn the new program and move forward. It is a safer approach and you might even find new features that make life a lot easier.
Change is always difficult. As we get older learning new things becomes more difficult. So it’s a real challenge, I get it. But deciding to change is a personal choice. I still love learning new things. It keeps me sharp and relevant, but I’m a gear head. Your mileage may vary. 😉

No, just the opposite is true. If you slow down 60p footage on a 60p timeline, Vegas Pro will try and synthesize new frames to make it run slower because it needs 60 fps and all it has is 60 fps. That’s not what you want. You actually want to slow down 60p on a 24p timeline so that Vegas Pro will not create new frames but rather pull more original frames from the 60p footage because it only needs 24 fps and it has 60 fps to work with. So continue to slow down on a 24p timeline.

Ok, as long as the frame rate hasn’t changed it should work. Yea, Lock&Load really Rocks! I use it all the time over the built-in stabilizer. It gives much smoother results in difficult situations. Not sure why the build-in stabilize would be jittery although going from 30p to 24p does have it’s own cadence that could be jittery but then you would see this with both stabilizers.
I wonder if Lock&Load is stabilizing the original 30p footage and the internal stabilizer is converting to 24p first and then stabilizing that? That would explain why it might be jittery because there is less temporal information to stabilize at 24p? (just a guess)

I would stabilize 60p on a 60p timeline and then export the stabilized footage. You should get smoother stabilization because it will have more frames to work with. Then drop it into a 24p timeline for editing.

I believe this may be your problem. Is FilMiC Pro recording at 30.0 fps and ProRes 422 using 29.97 fps? You want to stabilize the original source footage to make sure that nothing in the transcoding is causing the problem unless you can guarantee that the transcoding is the exact fps as the source.

I use Safari so for me the question is, why would I need a browser other than Safari?
Why do I use Safari you might ask…? (other than it’s there and it works) Because it has support for the Mac keychain and is available on my Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iPad, and iPhone. That means that I store passwords once, and they are available on all of my devices without having to install anything else. One seamless experience. I can also be reading something on my Mac and get called into a meeting and I can go to my iPhone and see the tabs that were open on my Mac and continue to read the web page on my Mac from my iPhone. Did I mention it was one seamless experience?
So not everyone uses Chrome as their default browser but everyone is free to use whatever makes sense for them. 😉
