[Scott Francis] “The client is all Mac and I have no clue about any of there specs.”

Then you need to ask them because it’s extremely important in order for you to figure this out.

I’m telling you that MainConcept AVC rendered from Vegas Pro 13.0 using the “Apple …” templates play perfectly fine on Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan with iTunes 12. So you need to find out what’s wrong with your client’s Mac setup. How old is it?

[Scott Francis] “I used the 4:3 template in the Main concept for this specific set of renders.”

Did you try the Apple iPod 640×480 Video template? That should work fine. I’m playing these rendered videos on my Mac with iTunes right now and they work.

  • If the clips have ACID Loop beat information in them you can set the project tempo in the Ruler tab of Project Properties and then under Options | Project | Audio enable “Import audio at project tempo” and Vegas Pro will bring both audio clips in at the same tempo.

If they do not have any ACID beat information then you will have to manually sync them. This can be accomplished by marking the measures from one clip with Timeline Markers, and then splitting the 2nd clip every measure and stretching it to match the measure length of the first clip (marker to maker). Yes, it’s tedious… but it works.

February 20, 2016 at 6:28 pm in reply to: MP4’s from Vegas won’t work in iTunes

[Scott Francis] “Have a client who uses iTunes for all their video. When I render out videos in Vegas to MP4 (using main concept), iTunes will not load them.”

What version of Vegas Pro are you using?

What render template are you using?

Have you tried the Apple iPad/iPhone 4 720p30 Video template? That plays back fine in iTunes on my Mac.

Is your client using a PC or a Mac?

    What version of iTunes?

What version of Mac OS X? or PC Windows?

If they are using a really old version of iTunes on Windows XP that’s a lot different problem than if they are using iTunes 12.3 on Mac OS X 10.11.3.

[Scott Francis] “Does Vegas not use h.264 or what may be the issue here.”

I’m guessing the issue is the render template that you are using and not the MainConcept AVC encoder itself. You also didn’t say what version of Vegas Pro you are using. Older versions didn’t have the Apple HD templates.

February 20, 2016 at 6:08 pm in reply to: Next Version of Sony Vegas Pro? NAB 2016

[Thomas Roberts] “Any thoughts on a new Sony Vegas Pro coming out at NAB?”

One can only hope… Usually Sony makes announcements at NAB in April or IBC in September. If there is going to be an announcement, that would be the time to do it. Luckily, we won’t have to wait too long. April will be here before you know it.

February 20, 2016 at 5:38 pm in reply to: FCP X vs Premiere Pro CS6 ???

[Declan Smith] “For photography elements, I have switched to Affinity Photo & Affinity Designer away from Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator.”

Me too. I also replaced After Effects with Apple Motion, and Media Encoder with Apple Compressor so I have no need for Adobe CS6 anymore (even though I still own copy).

Affinity Photo to replace Photoshop: $59
Affinity Designer to replace Illustrator: $59
Apple Motion to replace After Effects: $59
Final Cut Pro X to replace Premiere Pro: $299
Not having to pay a subscription fee to Adobe every month: PRICELESS!!! 😀

And the BEST parts is… I have FCP X, Motion, and Compressor installed on ALL 4 of my Macs! (2010 Mac Pro, 2008 Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini). You can’t do that with Adobe products!!! Pick two.. but that’s it. I got tired of being treated like a criminal by Adobe.

February 20, 2016 at 5:27 pm in reply to: FCP X vs Premiere Pro CS6 ???

[David Roth Weiss] ” CS6 is now ancient software, and it’s inferior to CC in so many ways that I can’t even begin to think of someone like you taking the time to bother to learn it at this point.”

    +1

Yea that was the point I was making in my post. I agree totally.

[David Roth Weiss] “Of course, coming from Vegas, you were already using non-traditional software, so perhaps using X won’t be as much of an issue for you.”

Yea, Ken did say he does, “…weddings and events to video biographies, promotional & marketing video, photo montages etc.” so I don’t think that collaborating with other editors is an issue. Vegas Pro editors are primarily “lone wolves” and don’t care much about what “other” editors are using. lol

I came from Vegas Pro to FCP X and I swear that the developers of X had studied a copy of Vegas Pro and then innovated beyond it because a LOT of the same concepts apply but they are implemented more eloquently. I found it incredibly easy to pick up FCP X coming from Vegas Pro. I highly recommend you get a copy of Ripple Training’s basic course on FCP X. I was being productive in FCP X the first day after watching their training.

February 20, 2016 at 5:14 pm in reply to: FCP X vs Premiere Pro CS6 ???

[Ken Bennett] “Tell me why I should go with FPC X over PP CS6?”

Because Premiere Pro CS6 is a dead product that will never be updated to support new OS versions, and never support new camera formats and delivery formats as they come out. Why would you want to move to a dead software product vs one that’s still alive? That just doesn’t make any sense to me.

FCP X has had major updates every year since it was introduced 5 years ago and ALL of them have been FREE. It’s the best $299 I ever spent on a piece of software. It’s also the only NLE that I would use because once you remove the limitations of tracks, you really begin to appreciate how effortless editing can be with the magnetic timeline. It’s just a totally liberating way of working. You either love it or hate it but I love it and would never go back to editing with tracks.

If you have ever been bitten by Vegas Pro’s behavior of sliding grouped events under each other so that they are hidden, you’ll love FCP X because it would be *impossible* to do that because FCP X would move the clips out of each others way because clips are not limited to having to live on set tracks. In other words, FCP X’s Connected Clips behave much better than Vegas Pro’s Event Groups.

But to get back to your original question… Premiere Pro CS6 is DEAD! IMHO, learning it now with no desire to move to Adobe CC would be a bad investment of your time.

February 20, 2016 at 4:50 pm in reply to: Best compression

[Gary Caganoff] “I’m happy with the look of the 3.30Mbits/secs. Would that be Ok or is it too slow?”

I thought the 3.3Mbps look good too. It’s all about what looks better to you. If you are happy with it, that’s a perfectly acceptable bitrate for SD internet video.

February 20, 2016 at 2:15 pm in reply to: Assistance with codecs

Yea, getting it back to the original 15 fps was the right choice before processing with DeShaker if all they did was frame double. You can add them back in Vegas Pro by adjusting the playback rate to 0.5 or even have Vegas Pro blend the frames for smoother motion.

February 19, 2016 at 12:08 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas Pro 12 24p film look slow motion riddle.

[Derek Charles] “So that being said – I could drop all of my 60p and 24p footage both on a 24p timeline from the get go and do all my 0.25x and 0.4x playback on both frame ratea as healthy as my past 60 time line editing?”

Actually, that was “theoretical”. In reality you don’t need to do anything! If you drop 60p footage onto a 24p timeline Vegas Pro will conform it to 24p without you doing a single thing. That’s why people love Vegas Pro. You can edit all sorts of mixed formats without even thinking about it and it will do the right thing.

You will, however, need to Disable Resample on all of the 60p events so that Vegas doesn’t frame blend them.
