Just found this after much more searching…I’m perhaps a solution, if not terribly efficient…it involves changing all project media files field order to “lower level first”, the standard Marc says for DVDs…he told the other person the reason the video might it looks OK on the PC is that on a PC one sees progressive rather than interlaced video…

We’ll see..in the meantime happy to have more suggestions…

Terry – Thanks for your post. I’d read somewhere that it was better to capture the HD and then down-convert…maybe that makes things more difficult…but I’d like to avoid recapturing the video if possible as I then have to re-sort through 240 clips to get 30 or so I’m using. Perhaps I can proceed another way?

At your suggestion I took at look at both the project properties and clip properties

    PROJECT PROPERTIES:

Template: NTSC DV (720×480, 29.970 fps)
    Width: 720
    Height: 480
    Field order: Lower field first
Pixel aspect ratio: 0,9091 (NSTC DV)
    Frame rate: 29.970 (NTSC)
    Full-resolution rendering quality: Good

[Perhaps this should be set to “Best”? (I’ve just seen that Vegas help says “If you’re using high-resolution stills (or video) that will be scaled down to the final output size, choosing Best can prevent artifacts”)]

    Deinterlace: Blend

[Vegas says this setting “uses contents from both fields and works well for high-detail, low-motion video” whereas Interpolate “Uses a single field at a time and works well for high-motion, low-detail video”…not sure which is best for football game action??]

    CLIP PROPERTIES:

    (90% are HD; 10% non-HD)
Here are the properties from one of the HD clips (all HD clips should all be the same):

    Format: MPEG2
    Attributes: 1440x1080x12
    Frame rate: 29.970 (NTSC)
Field Order: Upper Field first [this may be one of the problems?]
Pixel aspect ratio: 1.333 (HDV 1080)
    Alpha channel: None
    Rotation: 0 (original)

Given the differences are there adjustments I can make to improve the video rendering?

Also, I’m still not sure why the rendered MPEG2 video plays in good quality on my computer in MediaPlayer when I click on it in the “Renders” folder…

    Thanks for any suggestions…
