Agree with Job, in general. There certainly are better tools out there.
Symphony’s strength is that you can do some very precise and sophisticated color correction within the Avid itself, often in real time. Depending on the type of programming and your workflow, that can be a very big deal. FCP (legacy or X) or Premiere can’t really do that, even with plugins. The $3k pricetag is kind of hard to justify these days, though.

You can move sequences with or without media using this:

You can’t really move your project and bin structure.

You have to sync by in or out point instead of timecode.
That means you have to have a visual or audio reference in all the clips to sync up.
Not familiar with Camtasia…can you feed it external audio as it records your screen?

I never experienced the under run bug with 6.0, so I can’t say if its fixed. It says it is in the release notes. -

Until the next generation of processors from Intel is available, no new Mac Pros. Until then, its kinda pointless except for the addition of Thunderbolt.
According to this, should be around April.

I think I remember a lengthy post about this awhile back (maybe from Gary Adcock? Sorry, don’t remember for sure)
ProRes 4444 can be RGB or YUV, but its not user selectable. Its automatically selected. There may be an issue where in certain instances it gets it wrong.

I downloaded it. I’m not sure if it still shows up in Software Update or not. I already had it on disk from awhile ago.

I have FCS3 and MC6 on the same drive (Adobe CS 5.5 and a trial of FCP X too!) all running happily on he same drive with no issues. Of course, I cloned my drive before installing all that, just in case.

What versions of Avid?
V6 supports multichannel QuickTime files. Earlier versions do not.
