I would be interested in knowing about the camera/deck use as well. Got the impression from the DVX User forum that using cheap camera as a deck will suffice in lieu of a higher end r/p deck.

Also, where can I purchase head cleaning supplies?

    Thanks,
    John

    Thanks Steve,
Haven’t tried that yet but will do so. Not sure if my trusty G4 is up for the test. Have 1gb ram and allocated a bunch of it to AE.

    Thanks again,

    Joe,

I still don’t think the quality is that good doing it this way but I guess it beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick…

    1. Hook RCA or SVHS cables from output of your DVD player (same with VHS deck, btw)
    2. Plug the other ends into the RCA / SVHS sockets of your DVX
    3. Stick in a DVD and a tape.
    4. Start searching and recording with your double fisted remotes

    Best of luck,
    John

Thanks for your post. I’ll investigate the site but can you say how much quality loss will occur with the first approach versus the second? Thanks again,

    Thanks again Paul,

I’ll start the process of upgrading drives. Any suggestions on the type of card to look for? I’m using Premiere 6.0 on my G4.

So I gather my stuttering problem isn’t ram related but has to do with the drive, right?

    Really appreciate your input.

    Thanks Mike,

Just put the computer into render mode for a half hour talking head using cleaner ez. That process takes upwards of 10+ hours so won’t get control back until tomorrow. The output there is a 320×240 quicktime I copy onto CD’s.

As far as hard drives go, I’m using a 10gb as the master for programs and OS. I have a 60gb partitioned in half which are used for storing projects; Premiere, After Effects, etc. I use the 200gb firewire, as said earlier, for graphic and video storage. To the best of my memory the latter spins at 7200 while the others are 4800. I’m leaving now for my other job and will return to check emails in the morning. Can’t thank everyone enough for their input.

    John
