Having chatted to an engineer the other day, he felt that it is probably my CPU struggling that is the root of the problem.

Let’s hope they get the new Mac Pro out soon.

Thanks for your reply.

I always convert to AIFF before using audio in a sequence but maybe I need to ensure it’s 48khz.

What is strange however is that I’ve never had this happen before in Final Cut 6 and doesn’t explain why a DV project that has been with me since Final Cut 5 would start acting up as I described. This is especially frustrating as it’s a 60 minute music DVD.

I’ll resample the audio when I get a chance and try it and maybe I should grab a screen recording to demonstrate what is going on.

Hi Steve

I’ve been shooting AVC-Intra 100M 1080p 25 and my sequence on my current job is Apple ProRes 422 LT, 1920 x 1080.

The same problem occurs when I open up FCP6 projects that have been transcoded to ProRes footage in a ProRes sequence as before and even a DV PAL project with matching sequence and clip properties. You get this strange moment where the playhead and picture slow down and allow the picture to sync itself to the audio.

All the sequence audio rates and those related to the clips are 48khz but background music files tend to be 44.1khz. I’m not sure whether this could cause a problem, however it was never an issue in FCP6.

Hi Steve

The more I think about it, the more I think your answer is the only one that could be right. I would try and recreate the conditions by opening a new file in MPEG Streamclip but I don’t want to lose the cached video file that is still showing in the user interface. That is my next objective – plus get a proper back up workflow!

Thanks for your response.

I saved the file to the same folder but with a completely different name and I saw it vanish as the file completed the transcode.

It doesn’t make sense to me and the more you think about it the more you think that you must have done something wrong or imagined it but if I’d dragged and dropped into another folder accidentally I would be able to search for it and if I’d moved it to trash, I’d be able to get it out.

Unless there’s a way of deleting it from a Finder window without it hitting the Trash?!

I’m just taking a look to see if I can get away with editing it without the master clip for the most part but that’s not the point.

Hi Colin

They were the first things I did because files don’t just disappear do they? It’s completely unfathomable. I just need to find a way of retrieving what’s in the video pane in MPEG Streamclip.

I used this software before for converting mp4 files and only did so for the DSLR footage because I know a lot of people are happy with it. If I’d have thought about it I would have just used Compressor. And a back up would have been good!
