Almost, but not yet.
1. Ultimate S Pro auditor, Production Assistant, and the script that Sam just sent all work the same. It removes all the gaps on each track, one track at a time.
2. The Vegaseur auditor is closest, it generates a list and if you work it backwords, selecting in the timeline, pressing delete, it finds only those spots where there is nothing in any track.

Correct,
You have to keep the total sound under zero. If you have loud sounds at the end, you will have to reduce the voice and those sounds proportionally to keep the total under zero.
There are two ways to do it. Simple way is to create a smaller event and lower the volume in that event where it gets too loud.
If it happens many times throughout the video, you put the background sounds on a track and use an audio fx to lower the dynamic range of that track.

John, the technique you suggested just now is close, but actually it is harder than just turning on the all tracks ripple and grabbing the right events and dragging them to the left events. I still have to go find each gap manually and make a beginning and ending selection, and then press the delete.
It looks like that is the best that is possible and I appreciate your help.
If you are interested, I can make a video clip to show how it works from Ulead, and perhaps someone could crank that into product plans.

I read that same item too and perhaps read into it what I need it to do.
What I want it to do is simply remove places where there is nothing in the timeline vertically from top to bottom.
This was so basic to my previous editor, I find a difficult time describing it.
Track one is a multicam video. Track 2, 3, 4,5 are the single channel audio that goes with them.
Track six is my single camera video. Track 7 and 8 are the audio.
I have completed a 3 hour wedding edit job. Now I want to create a 5 minute highlight. I delete a bunch of stuff on the multicam track, bunch of stuff on the single video track, some things on the audio track.
Then I want to snug them together so I can see where I am at. The command I have used in Ulead was search for empty time slots. It brings up a list and says that there are 15. The first is at say, 5 minutes for 27 seconds. Delete. I click yes. Next is at 10 minutes for 4 seconds, delete?
So what I end up with retains the same video to audio sync and same time order of the all the tracks. But the clips are not scattered over three hour timeline.
Instead, the way it works is I get all my multicam video snugged up to the left, all my single cam video snugged left on its own line, the audios are each snugged left, and there is no relationship left between any tracks. I never have a single track editing job, so I can’t even imagine a use for this the way it is.
I can not believe that these functions are not in there. Please lead me out of the woods.

I always try to keep the main voice sound as loud as possible up under zero. Whether the person is yelling or whispering. Then I adjust all other sound effects, background music, etc from there.
The pain is that most non professional talent seem to start their sentences louder than the end of the sentence when they have less air in their lungs. So you have to correct for that.
I don’t think Bluray versus DVD should make a difference. Other than Blu Ray is automatically AC3, and DVD could be pcm or AC3. AC3 is the format that goes nuts when the sound clips.

Hi Nigel,
I use vegas 9.0 e 32 bit on windows xp pro and the mpeg loads into the timeline quickly and painlessly.
You don’t need neoscene. If three machines cause it, I would look at the file itself?
Do you know what settings the camera was on when it was recorded?
How did they get the mpeg from camera to computer?
Do the mpeg files play standalone in windows media player?

I created a video with a bunch of titles of a certain style, color, location, font type.
Now Client wants a different font.
The only way I know to change it is open each event, change the font, close, and move on.
Is there a way to copy the text event attributes and paste them to other text events?

I agree, I would prefer shooting with an ex3 or the nxcam compared to the pd170. But I believe they appear better is the high definition appears to compensate for the low light noise.
There are other factors beside chip size that could affect the low light characteristics.
Here is the test I performed.
PD170 on tripod right next to ex3, and later next to nx5u. Settings were 1/60 interlaced and automatic exposure and gain.At night they were pointed at the same object in my room.
Gradually lowered the light all the way off.
I was recording on the tape, and on the media.
I connected their composite outputs to the TV set. Later I compared the image on the computer in a timeline.
What I found is when the light was low, the pd170 had a recognizable image as it gracefully darkened. The ex3 and the nx5u were filled with digital noise at the same light level. Curiously, their image looked brighter, but the brightness was due to the digital noise making the black look like other colors.
I found it easier to brighten the low light in post with the pd170, than the noisy low light signal from the ex3 and nx5u.
Let me make one other comment.
I have performed this pd170 comparison on other similar HD cameras over the last two years. The ex3 and nx5u were BY FAR the closest to the pd170.
