they do not compare. one is to professionally monitor editing, the other is to enjoy in your living room.

the camera has SDI, which has everyone hypnotized. use the analog, yes it has analog. it is in sync!

ja, die information ist korrekt. probier es selbst.

” BMD and AJA down-scaling is more like a preview mode – not a mastering function! ”
that information is not correct. Please do not obfuscate the issue and make a completely false statement about another manufacter in the process of doing so. One of the main purposes of AJA’s Kona LH, LHE, 2 or 3 is their hardware downconvert (and cross convert and upconvert), it is a true professional downconvert for broadcast.
If you need convincing, line up whatever card you think has a decent downconvert, a real expensive HDCAM or D5 deck and AJA. Then compare their downconverts on a hardware scope you have laying around your facility. I have done this before and you can do this same experiment and draw your own conclusions.
i am not over here trolling, it should be for BMD support and sales, but when obviously wrong information like that is put out there, i would like to make sure the facts are there. OK, on with solving this guy’s issue!
cheers!

you won’t get the two to work together. save some time.
many people who use both FCP and Avid have a “hybrid” or dual boot–have one avid drive and one FCP.
AJA also has a stand alone application, VTR Exchange. that may work fine along side, but not holding hands and working from inside of avid. use the kona card to log capture to something Avid can use for media. then switch to avid for your editing if that is the application you desire.

find a reseller who can set this up for you. i saw the multibridge extreme vs. the kona and it wasnt even close. one thing i like about the conversions on the AJA cards is they say they are identical quality or better than their rack mount or mini converters.

just as you cant roll a signal out of a Kona to a Deck for HDV transcoding on the fly, you cannot encode HDV on ingest to a Kona.
in this instance, you will want to do your capture and your work uncompressed from HDCAM, then use media mangler to convert that into HDV. it will take AWHILE. but for now, it is the best way and will leave you the best image possible at this point.

use the highest common denominator. ingest and transcode to that setting. in this case, 8 bit uncompressed SD is fine. run the DV in via Kona and not firewire for realtime transcoding. bam, done.
