Ok, So I know enough to know you and others have probably answered this 1000 times but, I NEED input. very shortly I will be deciding between an MPEG-2 camcorder that is “native’ to FCP and an AVC/H.264 camcorder. I want an experienced opinion as to the following:

Is AVCCAM/.264 that much harder/laborious to edit than MPEG-2 vs. the difference in image quality between the two?

Please be patient with me. I KNOW I’m asking a question that has many answers. I’m looking for “inspiration”.

    thank you.

So, one more time for those of us tech ‘ “challenged”; MPEG-2 vs H.264: regardless of speed, which one provides the best pic quality with an NLE/FCP?

    thank you.

Thank you very much for your response. Please let me be more specific. Budget is not my primary concern at this time. I am concerned about which may be more efficient/quick to edit with, either the AVCCAM codec or the DVCPro codec, i.e the HMC150 or the HVX200a. I’ve read that with the AVCCAM unless you have a Quad core processor in your comp. (mac) you will either not be able to edit at all or each edit will take a long time to perform. I have not read any such complaints re: the DVCPro in the HVX. That’s my concern, if anyone can advise. I have a dual core intel Mac and must stick with that for now. Please let me know if you can. Again, thank you.

    thank you.

Thank you very much for your response. Let me see if I can be more specific though. My concern has to do with the ease of editing, DVCPRO vs. AVCCAM. I’ve read that with AVCCAM one would need a quad core processor in their pc/mac for editing. I’ve not read any similar concerns with the HVX/DVCPro. I guess my question is: 1. How efficient will a dual core mac fair in editing AVCCAM using FCP versus the DVCPro in the HVX. This will be the primary factor in deciding HMC150 or the HVX200a. Please respond. Thank you.

    thank you.

    Samah Bennett,

I am wondering if you’ve found out the difference(s) between the HVX205A and the 200A? I would greatly appreciate any info you have on this as I’m preparing to purchase one in days.

    Thank you,

    thank you.
