  • I don’t like shared memory for video/audio.. keep in mind, too, the system comes with only 512K of RAM, and you’re going to share? WinXP likes 512 for itself practically!

If you’re serious about editing, or any graphic work, I’d say keep looking.

    Ralph,

Take a look at the Dell 9300 insperion.. they have a discount coupon floating around for a $750 discount. Get the Nvidia go6800 card with it, so you have a 17 inch screen on the Dell and DVI out to an HD TV or a second monitor. It is a great laptop for the price.

Here’s a good referance site for you:

You’ve solved your problem: line level into mic input = distortion. set recorder to line and adjust from the mixer, si. Keep the levels in the mixer well below 0db. If your mixer sends 1ktone, set camera levels to it peaking 0 on the mixer and -20 on your camera/recorder.

I guess I didn’t answer your post in strict terms.. we use all the Adobe products to better our end products, including After Effects pro.

Vegas is a quickie for our studio, and we still use all the old Sonic Foundry tools in their current versions. But that may be changing with technology.

Please don’t attempt to put Vegas in the same class as After Effects… Read the white papers of what each program does.

I say this because I like vegas as a basic DV25 editor and wouldn’t want to compare it to a powerhouse like After Effects which operates in another world of 2d effects generation, vegas is an infant in here, and crippled.

Also, firewire transfer uses less CPU. If you’re having speed issues, you may want to use firewire. I’m using 2.5inch drives on usb2 external with a sonoma chipset laptop M1.6 processor and have not had any dropped frames. Of course, it pays to defragment the drive after each session. Also, they are 5400 drives as well.. if you have a choice, get a 7200rpm.

There are some 3.5 external sata enclosures that have both usb2 and firewire options.

I agree with Nancy, the videos are very well done and are a wealth of practical information on Vegas. Well worth the cost.

If the highlights are blooming, there’s no recovering the original image.

Capture the tape data into your nle, and grab the files from your hd into your nle and listen to them. All things being equal, they should sound exactly the same.

Or, there may be an audio setting in dv-rack skewed if they aren’t.

Haven’t had any problems capturing in dv-rack to an external 5400 usb2 drive. There’s no visible differance in data from the tape or disk.

What do you mean by “static noise” in the video?
