August 21, 2014 at 3:10 pm in reply to: Format in exFat not possible on SOME windows7 ?

I feel your pain. PCs cab be very unpredictable. We sell a baseball training CD-ROM for kids called Where’s the Play? and occasionally it doesn’t work on Windows 7. The same disc does work on other W7 machines. Go figure. My only thought is there some bit of code on the computer that doesn’t work that interacts poorly with WTP.

Were the SSDs originally formatted on a mac? If so, I think I read once that Windows 7 can’t reformat in that case. Google exfat windows 7 and see if that pops up.

There are plugins that claim to do stereo to 5.1. Waves makes one. I’ve never tried it, but take a look.

Try using Wave Agent (free from Sound Devices) to change the audio file header to the correct frame rate. Audio has no timecode, but the header tells the NLE how to count time. Iff the header’s wrong, you get drift.

  • It doesn’t help you now, but you can build effects like this in Motion and export them as effects that open in FCPX. Then, you’d drop the clip you want into an image well and your effect does all the work. Maybe you can do this more quickly in Motion and create composites you then bring into FCP.

Check out Hawaiki’s Auto Grade. While the name implies automatic, the extensive fine controls may give you the control you need.

August 13, 2014 at 6:34 pm in reply to: Red Giant Primatte 5.1

I used the Primatte Keyer years ago. It was a very good keyer. However, I find the keyer in FCPX & Motion to be excellent. I’ve never failed to pull a good key with it. I’d be hard pressed to justify the cost of the new Primatte.

I’m not familiar with Vegas 8, but DaVinci Resolve Lite is a free download. It will transcode RAW to other output formats.

August 11, 2014 at 3:13 pm in reply to: PAL recorded material into NTSC DVD

I always export a master clip at current settings, then use that clip in Compressor. There is no DVD that will play in all the standards, although, many PAL players will play NTSC DVDs. If your DVD is for a critical use, be sure to test the DVD in the player that will be used.
