Also, check the Scale parameter in the Motion tab. FCP will sometimes size images to fit the screen. Make sure that Scale is set to 100.

If the clips were recorded with distortion there’s not much you can do. There are some programs that can help with clipped (distorted) sound, bit only if the clipping is minor. Checkout Izotope RX.

We have an Avid user in our shop. He exports a QT file using an avid codec. I downloaded Avid codecs for Mac from https://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=263545. Make sure you export in one of the supported codecs. If you don’t see the codec you need, search the Avid site for legacy codecs.

H.264 may be your best bet. Also, breaking up the files into smaller units may make the encodes more manageable. But it will still take a long time. You might investigate Matrox’s Compress HD technology for faster than realtime encoding to H.264. Link to Matrox Site

What about playing the files in real time onto DVDs. You can also include timecode if this is for review purposes..
