Hey Keith, funny, we just installed this yesterday.

To reduce SD’s size, run this tool first and then go back into Andreas Kiel’s Create Disk image app and then run ‘Shrink Disk Image’ which is at the bottom of your app. We run our media out of a central location and not the event, so we were able to get about a 80-90% reduction in project/event size.

As an example, this app just reduced a project from 7 gigs to about 700 MB. A 90% reduction in storage requirements for archived projects is VERY nice. Thanks again!

I think if you can pull a 5D key with this setup you should be fine. You might be able to shoot it S-log in camera and get a little extra out of the codec.

Super interested to hear your results Bret. Did you guys end up buying the AXS-R5? I was going to do it, but I think I’m going to wait to see what shakes out of Blackmagic at NAB this year instead. The FS700 is such a great camera but 10k for a recorder that would turn this camera rig into a bazooka was just too much for me.

I think that maybe what Promise means is that those new performance standards are being set in the Thunderbolt realm. Vague, for sure, but until we get our hands on one who can say?

In regards to our FCPX On Air videos, we’ve updated quite a few elements of our hardware, networking (Thanks Bob!) and even location in the past year, but I’ve just not felt the need to add anything else because:
1. The software and our workflow has been basically the same. What you saw is still how we do it.
2. There are better and more talented individuals that instruct people on the usage of software than me
3. With the big update coming I don’t want to waste any time adding to a discussion that might fundamentally change in a matter of days or weeks.My whole goal with the series was to show that you can, in fact, do much of what people said couldn’t be done with FCPX. It might be nice to show off the new Mac Pros and 10.1 in a somewhat personal pet project. I LOVE the idea of shooting something that looks great on an RX100 and Rode iPhone lav mic, but it really boils down to if we have time.
Big changes are coming very very soon for FCPX. If the 3 month update cycle starts fresh this month, who knows what we’ll get for FCPX in time for NAB.

My hope is that we can order tonight at midnight. That would be awesome – then the day it ships the new FCPX 10.1 comes out. It’s really important that these deliver and bill before the end of the year so that small biz’s like our can write them off in our 2013 taxes.
I think end of year tax deduction purchases will help Apple get a nice bump in sales. I think they’re very aware of that. I just hope they’ve made enough of them.
Here’s a q – I have one suite that will be specifically for graphics creation and another that will be mostly editing in FCPX. Should I get a 6 core for editing and 12 core for graphics? Based on benchmarks that would get the best performance for each task, right?
