If the mac was a little wonky to begin with we did clean installs. If it was fine we did upgrades. If you use box.com you will need to search the web for a terminal command. One machine is being cranky about Bluetooth mice. I would upgrade first. Then clean install if I had to.

We bit the bullet and decided to upgrade everything this week, with the exception of a single Mac Pro tube that is in the middle of projects. Biggest and most interesting thing was switching our 10gbe server connections to SMB instead of AFP. As others have said, it actually does seem much snappier now – and iTunes on the server is actually much improved.
I was stupid when setting up our network connections, but Bob Zelin pointed me in the right direction and all is well now. In terms of plugins, we have very few FCPX plugins so nothing has broken. After Effects on the big graphics computer has a metric ton of plugins, so that is part of why we waited on that specific machine.
All in all I’m actually please how well Yosemite has worked out for us. Your mileage may vary.

Our DP actually owns an F5, so we decided to run with the camera he’s most familiar with, recording internally as well as 4k 10 bit to a KiProQuad. Then we’re putting two GH4’s on each side of primary camera (2 person interview, limited time). This should give us tons of coverage and lots of options.
I think maybe Gh4 has the dead simplest 4k workflow out there. Nice codec and excellent images. Very excited to see how this works out.

My memory of SL is very vague but Tyler might be on the right path. It couldn’t hurt to install chrome or firefox, delete safari, redownload safari, and then see if it’s good to go. If you’re running any extensions like adblock, maybe delete/reinstall them all as well.

Is this some kind of audio suite or something where you want to lock it in time forever? Safari really didn’t do anything that amazing for Snow Leopard, so why not just switch to Chrome or Firefox?

We recently switched to Box.com accounts. The benefit of this has been our network clients have enterprise level accounts, which allow for video preview of files from within the website. I still have a Hightail, but with iCloud Drive being part of Yosemite and Box syncing all our office users so easily, we never use Hightail anymore. Box has basically eliminated the need for FTP as well. We’re pretty happy with it.
