It’s a really weird thing. The clips play fine until I adjust scale or change the center of the clip, then it gets all green and screwy. I tend to not think of corrupted media, it’s not pink and funky like that and the clips play all the way through just fine. I’ll check my video processing settings again, but I tried switching to RGB, etc, with the same results…

Cool, I just saw that 24 hour shipment date on the website. I’m starting a project tonight and kinda hoped to do it on 7. Retailers don’t seem to have it yet (at least on websites).

    Thanks Aaron

…after you’re married and have several projects, the client can start nagging you constantly, bringing up old clients in every conversation. Eventually you’ll get sick of the client’s repetitiveness and start eyeing other younger, sexier, clients. Then one day she catches you working for another client, gets upset, pulls all her work from you, and you never see your projects again.

    Better sign a prenup first….

January 16, 2006 at 6:57 am in reply to: Kona 2 problem – blue pixel dust-like interference

Are you sure these pixels are being laid back to tape? I’ve noticed that there are some odd blue and green pixels that appear during playback on my LCD monitor(s) (especially on HDV footage), but they don’t get laid back to tape. These aren’t the old typical dancing pixels with an LCD.

I thought it might be an issue with FCP, however I’m intrigued that this could be a Kona 2 card issue. Especially since I think it’s still under warranty…

Damien if you want, do a search on all active posts for this topic. I think Walter even covered it yesterday.

From watching “The Vicar of Dibley”, I would say alot of it comes from being shot on video and then using the worst lighting scheme possible.

Granted, most of my knowledge of these shows comes from PBS, but there seems to be a consistant video/bad lighting combination throughtout the majority of them. The PAL thing enhances the lighting issues a bit, too I think.

January 6, 2006 at 10:09 pm in reply to: yearly rate for editor?

Agreed Walter. CNN really messes up the payscale there. In ’98 they “promoted” me to editor from feeds for 24k. Granted, I was only 23 and had been out of college just a year before they made me editor, so I was pleased at the time.

Now I on occasion hire freelance editors, and even in LA most are pleased with $50hr. One friend of mine actually convinced a place here to hit a $1000 day rate, but that was for a one time gig and they were desperate. I’ve heard of places like WB hiring Predators for $850, but in the end they’re still saving flow so why not.

For a yearly rate, it’s always going to come down to location, experience, skill, how you handle direction, speed, and the ever important quality of being able to save the producers ass when he/she is at a loss.

Since you’re asking that question, i’m guessing you’re light on the experience side, so it might come down to around 50k. Don’t take offense to that, I could be totally wrong.

oh, and no hiccups at all from FCP, other than that HDV pixel thing. I think it’s something to do with HDV and not how the monitor handles HD.
