I’d have a really honest conversation with myself if I were you. Can you pay the bills with personal videos you’d be making regardless of if you had a full time job? If you sign the contract and continue to make the videos – does it really matter if your company could theoretically claim ownership of it? Unless you say disparaging things about your employer or their products, it’s highly unlikely that would ever, ever happen.

Did the Card die or the Drives die? I was almost going to get a second 4322 a few weeks ago when we moved into a new office and upgraded an older system, but I decided to get ATTO R380 instead. BEST. DECISION. EVER.

My point is, I really see a significant performance improvement in the R380 vs the RR4322. While I can’t be completely certain that it has something to do with the drives (the RR4322 is pushing 8 2TB drives in a Proavio enclosure and the R380 is pushing 8 1TB drives), things I’ve discovered are:

-The ATTO raid is more consistent in AJA speed tests. The graph lines are almost straight across, vs the 4322, which hits higher overall speeds, but the lines look erratic and dip under 200 often)

-When clicking on the array in finder, there is a delay with the 4322, whereas the R380 is instant.

As soon as we get our next invoice paid, I’ll be yanking the 4322 out and replacing it with a R380 – hopefully next week.

I wonder if you were to swap out the 4322 in your system with a working one – would that bring back your data? If that’s a possibility, I might sell you my 4322 for a significantly reduced price when I take it out of my system. It works and has been working fine for 14 months, but as I said above, the performance isn’t as good as the ATTO. I’d advise you to invest in an Areca or ATTO card in the near future either way. One caveat – if you want 2TB Caviar black drives, go with ATTO. The areca doesn’t play well with those drives.

This would be frikken awesome – I’d be more than happy with just a bumped up data rate for 1080p and 720p footage.
It sucks that the 7D (which we have) has additional security measures put in.

Let’s also hope their future updates unlock higher frame rates.

On a side note, I hate when companies intentionally limit their products via software so that their other product lines aren’t affected. These cameras were hobbled so as not to compete with their video cameras. Lame.

Wouldn’t that be negated though if 720 is frame accurate? The monitor has been used with an AJA Kona 3 for years (it’s a panasonic pro plasma) and never had delay like this.

I have 1000 reels to go through right now – and lemme tell ya, I prefer links. In fact, because we submit cuts to clients as links, in many ways providing an asked-for link is the first test to get an interview.
And while I’m at it, I prefer links to actual work in my genre, not full fledged websites that require I navigate through somebody’s photo albums, witty thoughts on cheeses of the world, and their cat’s blog. Lastly, sites with reels embedded in Flash don’t work on iOS devices. Considering how many network execs I know that use the heck out of iPads and iPhones for their work, providing a Flash based reel can seriously hurt a person’s chances of getting hired. The reel shows off your work, but how you present it says quite a bit as well.

Give me something simple, clean, and quicktime based and I’m a happy camper.

You are young and passionate with a healthy dose of idealization. Nobody wants to dishearten you – but there aren’t that many gigs like you want. For me, jobs I’d take peanuts for doing are:
1. Writer for “The Simpsons” (I’d just love to hang out with those folks)
2. SNL cast or writing staff
3. Conan O’Brien writer
4. Or get involved somehow with anything Judd Apatow has going on.

So make a bucket list for your career. Think about the things you love and put them on paper. Do some homework and perhaps you could find an internship at a place that does some aspect of what you love. Perhaps there’s a production company for your favorite show that handles all the shows audio, or color correction, or animation, etc. Look at the credits, google the companies, ask for internships with their HR departments.

Worst case, make your own creative space. Writing needs no financing and no crew. Good luck!

Ran into this last week with a friend. Sometimes creating a new project and cut/pasting everything into it works. Other times you might have to make a new sequence and cut/paste all the clips in your old sequence into the new one.

There’s nothing like general error to awaken fears that Apple has totally dropped Final Cut development. Especially when you see how long people have been having general error issues in the FCP Forum via a search.

First, make sure you’re not working in 64 bit kernal (about this mac, more info, software). If so, google how to switch it to 32 bit.

Also, across two different mac pros, I’ve found the 7.5 Software/firmware to be the last frame accurate Kona software to work with my systems. Don’t do the 7.5.1, do the 7.5. My stuff works now, so that’s what I’m happy about.
