Been having a similiar problem with CS4(haven’t upgraded yet) where if I’ve been using AE for awhile, it won’t paste anything. I’ll purge, re-copy the text, nothing. Found that if I restart my entire system it will generally work fine after that…bout the only work-around I’ve got.

In addition to glow, looks like the transfer mode was set to add/screen to give some pop to the intersections.

Looked at your project. Think the problem(and you probably could get a better answer from the guys on the expressions forum) is that changing the frequency over one second is causing AE to calculate a new position based on the change in frequency for each frame.

So at Frame 0 the freq =4. Frame 1 = 3.57, Frame 2 = 3.35…because of that, AE has to figure out a new position based on the changing freq rate.

At this point I’m out of my depth a bit and really am going to suggest you the guys in the expressions forum might be able to better help you smooth out the transition based on what you are trying to accomplish.

As said before, the frequency needs to be a really low number. Did something like what you are attempting and I had the frequency set around .2 to .3 per second. I didn’t use a slider, but just set a expression on the camera position to wiggle(.3,30). Really just a small amount of wiggle that doesn’t happen a lot. Even at a low number like 4, you’re moving the camera every 8.5 frames. It will be jumpy.

All right, first off, I absolutely hate it when someone jumpshots me, not as bad as getting commando’d, but up there.

In AE, after you capture the video, you and throw it into a composition, what you would create your text, say “jumpshot”. This is above the video. At this point your text is there, you can move it around, but it’s always above the video.

There are a few ways of acomplishing what he did, but what it ammounts to is he masked the text. In jumpshot, he traces the wall, sets a key frame on mask path, if the wall moves up in the shot, he moves the mask. You continue doing this until you have a mask that follows the wall movement completely. Now you just change your mask to invert and when the mask is over the text(ie…the wall) it’s invisible, when it doesn’t cover the text, it’s visible.

For more control-you could also create a solid(layer above text) and apply a mask to to that as you did before. Change your text layer track matte to alpha,(you may have to right-click near “source name” and choose “modes” now you can move text around, independent of the mask you created. If you had moved it around before, you would have to move all the keyframes for wall mask, this way you don’t.

If you really want a leg up on your class, go to Amazon and get “Creating Motion Graphics” from Chris and Trish Meyer (all of their books are excellent)—will give you a great leg up. Good luck in media.

I hate to be a curmudgeon, but to do a project like that, is going to be beyond a beginner’s abilities.

Basically you want to shoot the paper with marker points.

Create your text in a seperate composition, & import into final comp. Use the Tracker in AE(better yet, use Mocha) and track those points on your paper. You would then apply the tracking data to the precomped text and adjust.

Select all the keyframes-right click on one of the keyframes and choose “Keyframe Interpolation”. You want to change your keyframes to be LInear.

Under Edit>Preferences you can change it so that keyframes default to a linear interpolation.
