Hi Peter
I havent had a chance to test 8.2. Does it address the problems with image corruption on Phantom footage? Its a serious issue for a number of Phantom owners I know.

Hi Robyn, Jeff
Its true Nat Geo will not accept the use of a 2700 on their shows. We had to drop plans to use a 2700 on a show and change back to using a tape Varicam. We needed 60P.
On paper it seems very strange. However it may be an attempt to draw a line in the sand that 720P will not be accepted from new cameras, but they will let the older tape 720P cameras grandfather themselves out.Best

Hi John
Mariusz is correct on this. There isnt really a danger of doing permanent damage. You can delete any inaccurate corrections you make and start again. The process is more of a pixel blend than a turning off of the pixels. Its a fairly easy thing to do once you have been shown the process by an expert.
Its surprising how many pixels get corrected on the cameras prior to sale.Best

Thanks for clarifying Panasonics position.
Im pleased to hear that the firewire doesnt allow deck control.
However Im still not sure how detective work on camera hours will clarify a clients actions unless its a flagrant abuse.Best

Noah
Exactly.I am assuming Panasonic are aware that the camera is absolutely going to get used this way. Saying your not meant to is not going to stop someone who thinks they can save $500 on a deck rental.
By the way the camera is a VCR. Im talking about playback 🙂

Would super glue inhibit the cameras from going on the Tyler nose mount they didnt tell me about:-)
Im genuinely interested to hear from Panasonic about this. Much has been said about the low level wear and tear of the DVCPro transport mechanism.

I had the same thing happen once when I tried to save a file to the camera. Very strange. That was a few years back. Never happened again.
FYI a paintbox is the easiest way to get into menus you have been locked out of.John Chater

Thanks Jan
Thats really great news.
Please try for a worst case turn around of around one week for any pro product. I know that this is a sizeable task for any company, but the trust and confidence this will bring to your customers will pay Panasonic dividends.Best

Hi Tony
I agree. I have no problem with the people at Panasonic Service either. Jim Fast in LA is one of the most talented and generous engineers. I have learned so much from talking with him. I just tire of having to harass everyone constantly to make sure they are getting to my equipment. Often there is nothing they can do because parts seem really back ordered. Now they appear to have added the HVX to their list of responsibilites.
Please email me at: john at chatercamera dot com. Any references to good independent factory authorized engineers would be welcome.

I was at Panasonic a number of years back getting a demo of the Varicam with the much missed Michael Brinkman. During that time I was told that below 12fps puts a lot of stress on the CCD’s. Amongst other things lit pixels can become very apparent, So the 4-60 frames was a warning to that effect.
Turn your varicam to 4fps , 6db and let it warm up for an hour. Its a lucky person who has no lit pixels. I saw a camera the other day that I swear looked like a star map.Steve- Interesting you disclosed the fact that you can get the Varicam down to 1fps. I remembering asking one of your top engineers how to activate that setting. He wouldnt tell me. I found out anyway 🙂 Now that people are figuring out how to do this with the HVX-200 I’ll be curious to see the effects on its CCD.
