    Thanks Dave
after thinking carefully about how I want these child layers to behave , i’ve decided that i want to move their positions along keyframes. simple all i do is move along the time line mark a keyframe and move the selected child layer then move along mark a keyframe move the child etc. no problems. Now what I want to do is slightly more complicated, I want to motion sketch keyframes, why will ae allow me to a child layer and keyframe it manually, but not allow me to move them in motion sketch.
You are right, I needed to plan out exactly what I wanted. I’ll motion sketch objects from now on
before parenting them to layers. But don’t you think it would be more fun if the software was more
    versatile and intuitive… boo
    thanks

Thanks for that, calculating the speed worked, the leaves anchor points moved as the velocity increased .The only problem is my “else anchorPoint” line which makes the leaves “snap” back to their normal position, But this gives it a traditional “Lotto Reiniger” feel anyway,
    thankyou very much Dan.
