Thank you Noah. That helps quite a lot. I am still wondering about the other two points raised in my question: 1) why is the output of the DVX converted to 60i and 2) what is actually happening in rendering whit footage shot with the Sony VX. Are both fields used or not? It seems to me they have to be but that’s why I brought that question to the group.

    Thanks again.

    Jeff,

Thanks for your reply. I am sure there could be some confusion as this is not necessarily the standard but I wanted the menu to show as designed without the default highlight which is distracting to one of the items designated as a button.

Thanks for the guide, I will read through it. I am always interested in more information and glad to have the attached guide.

    Thanks again!

    Joe,

Cool idea–I never thought of that. Thanks indeed.

  • You can’t get stereo if you don’t have it to begin with. You can get two mono channels one for left and right but if the original left channel is bad, two mono tracks from the right is your only solution. I assume you know how to do that.

    Thanks Vince,

I was thinking the prview mode could be the primary isue but I did check the playback settings and found them to be in the standard mode. I chnage to accelerated (I have a 256Mb Nivida GS7900 GS card)which made playback even worse by far and that was surprising indeed! Possibly there is some other issue at work here.

    Thanks for the input.

What is the format of the source AVI file?

make sure that that no corection filters have been applied to the clip and uou are working with a clean AVI file.

I suggest that you begin with a test that involves a short portion of the entire clip (set the work area to about 5 minutes within the time line)and begin with the DV template for NTSC Progressive which should default to a Max bit rate of ~7Mb and quality of 4 and with a 29.97 frame rate. If that looks normal to you, that should indicate either the 24P or other features of your the template that you used are not compatible with the source AVI file or they have been mis-adjusted. If you get the results you were looking for in the test, then stick with the standard templates that meet your requirements based on the test. For every change you make to the standard template, run an additional test to be certain that no change have introduced the incompatibility.

Go to the menu panel on the left side of Encore and then click above the menue panel in the very top of the Encore window to select MENU, that’s the fourth selection over to the right from FILE.

If you uncheck the automatic menu assignment you are then free to move to the group of menu highlights below to modify the color and saturation associated with the buttons of your menu. Each color and the opacity of same can be modified to give you the effect you desire, in terms of changing the color of the button text or shape or both.

I would highly suggest that you get the Lynda.com training series on Encore CS3 by Chad Perkins. It is a well documented overview of Encore and it will be well worth the one time investment if you only want to purchase a limited number of downloads from Lynda.com. In fact, I have found them incredibly inexpensive for what you are exposed to in a very short time.
