I was having the same issue but found a successful workaround. Open the images in photoshop and save them as .psd’s. Remove the embeded profile in the save dialog.
Under File>Scripts>Image Processor, you can set up a batch process for this.

Don’t put the text on the texture layer. Put it on a layer above the texture later. Then for the texture layer activate the Alpha Track Matte in the timeline.

Some displacement mapping around the edge of the letter would really help to sell the effect.

The reason I wrote before that this shot will be difficult is because it’s not a junk matte you’ll need, but rather a cloned section of skin that will have to be hand tracked frame by frame to match the actor’s motion. It will have to blend smoothly with the surrounding skin and match any shadows cast onto the actor. Its edges may need to be rotoscoped, and it may need orientation adjustments in 3d space if the actor rotates.
Shooting with tighty whiteys would give you the same problems.
Just shoot the dang guy nude. Or devise a little cut-out cardboard circle that he can sort of tie on, if you get my drift. That will then serve as a good tracking marker for the pixelated cover-up gag you want to do.Joey Foreman

You only have handles when you’ve performed a trim on a layer. The handle will now be to the left or right of the beginning or end of the layer – depending on which end of the layer you trimmed.

With the timeline indicator at the point you want the layer to be trimmed to, press option left or right bracket. You’ll get your handle back.

I like the matte. With a laptop you’ll probably be changing locations from time to time, and you never know what sort of glare or reflections you’ll be contending with.

Don’t key your footage in FCP. Use keylight in AE – you’ll get much better results. But you have to read the manual first and maybe some tutorials. Keying is never a one button instant process – it takes skill regardless of how powerful the keyer. Your footage may look like it’s keying better in FCP but it’s not. You were probably seeing the results against a black background which is always deceptive. Don’t even bring the footage to be keyed into FCP before keying it. After keying it, do your compositing in AE – these are what AE is made for. Then render using the Animation code at highest quality.
By the way, what was your greenscreen footage shot on? If it had 4:2:2 color space, you’re throwing away valuable bit depth by exporting to PNG. TIFF is always better – it supports 32 bits per channel.Joey Foreman
