Before diving into the deep end of the pool of advanced compositing techniques like Motion Tracking, Rotoscoping, & Grain Matching, you should start with a comprehensive understanding of AE fundamentals.

I hope you’re able to get your issue resolved soon. C4D has a lot of rendering options, and can be confusing. I don’t know if you’ve tried rendering as a .tiff sequence, but that will preserve more bit depth than the animation codec. I think you still have to manually indicate that you want your video or image sequence to render as RGB + Alpha in C4D.

Okay, so it looks like you’re creating your particles as inverted luma mattes, and I don’t really understand why.
Why not turn off the solid at the bottom, set the Track Matte on the particular layer to None, and turn off the blue solid above it?I’m just not following the logic behind the track matte scheme you’ve set up.

[Andrew Ronholm] “Should I post this question in the C4D forum?”
Yes, please, because that’s where your user error is occurring. You aren’t properly rendering out an alpha channel from C4D.
You would do well to consult the help documentation that came with CD4 as well.
And please don’t vent your frustration on this forum with multiple repeated posts.Joey Foreman

I don’t know if things have changed in CS5, but Interpret Footage has only ever been available for footage, not compositions.

Good luck in your studies.
Looking at the clip again, I think the 3d app round trip could maybe be skipped by using the Freeform effect in CS5, or Bezier Warp in the previous versions.

My guess is that several layers of text were animated moving in various directions in an app like AE, precomposed and animated upward as a whole, then rendered with an alpha channel to a movie or image sequence which was then used as a UV Texture Map in a 3d app, and applied to a 3d model that matched the basic shape of the woman’s torso and head. This was then rendered with an alpha channel, minus the 3d model, brought back into the compositor, and masked off where her shirt is. The movie clip was probably first Stabilized, then, after the compositing, unstabilized back to the original camera motion.

March 10, 2011 at 5:55 pm in reply to: Exporting After Effects Projects as timelines for Final CutThe platform shouldn’t matter. XMLs are, I’m pretty sure, cross-platform.
You shouldn’t need to output .movs. The xml file references the source footage.Joey Foreman

March 10, 2011 at 2:06 pm in reply to: Exporting After Effects Projects as timelines for Final CutDo you have access to Premiere CS5? You can bring the AE comp into Premiere, then export it as a Final Cut XML.
