    Thanks for the reply Todd.
    When using Color Balance with 32 bit I am warned that this effect only supports 8 and 16 bit and in 32 bit color won’t be so accurate – why is that? Is it unwise to use Color Balance to color correct? or should it be in 16 bit?

    Thanks for the replies.
    Let’s assume intended usage is at the top end. What would be the tell-tale signs that a color correction isn’t quite right or has affected final output quality because it was not done in a top end application like say Color?

    I thought changing a native H264 clip to ProRes as a process, if not via compression itself, would have some affect on those pixels and how they look.
    Then to slow-mo them in AE followed by exporting (compression) them in QuickTime to remove audio (wrong way I know but done now) would have some impact on quality when intended for high end usage.

    HD clip from a 5D, 1920×1080 shot at 25 fps converted to ProRes (via 5DtoRGB) slow motioned and rendered in AE then finally compressed again in Quicktime.
    Expected final usage TV or cinema.

    Would an expert notice differences between each compression?

    Sorry subject should read removing sound.
    Yes I want to remove the audio from an H264 clip after it has been converted to ProRes via 5DtoRGB (has no option for removing sound), then worked on in AE.
    One way to do this – I thought – was in Quicktime by exporting and thereby compressing the clip through Options then Settings and unchecking the sound box etc. But this in effect means compressing the clip yet again.

    Is there a “non-compressive” method of removing audio preferably after the clip being worked on in AE or if needs be before converting or does compressing it again not affect the quality of the clip anyway?

    You’re Com-J in QT reply tells me that is a better way (compression-free) and I bet there is one in AE as well.

    Thanks guys but my concern is not only color shift but lack of shadow detail and the overall feel of the converted footage and whilst of course it would be best viewed and more accurately judged on a video monitor, I’m sure my calibrated 23″ Apple Cinema Display is not displaying differences in quality between these conversion methods purely because it is not a video monitor.
