Yes, check the Build panel. There’s a disc usage gauge there.

July 20, 2009 at 4:02 am in reply to: (Blu-ray) Superimposed optional video track? (Like subtitles, but better)Encore’s Blu-ray implementation is somewhat rudimentary, and doesn’t support multiple video streams playing back simultaneously. The only way to do something close to this in a “switchable” format from Encore would be to use its subtitles, which are pretty much the same as in the DVD-Video format.
Otherwise, to display this kind of finesse would require you to burn everything into the video, which of course means you would not be able to switch it off.

Nice of you to provide more info on this, Larry.
I’m definitely a seeing = believing type of fellow, so I’ll have to check this sometime from my black box perspective. I do recall that this has worked in the past on several players, at least in the manner I outlined in my replies to the OP – so I’m having difficulty accepting that it doesn’t work when it contradicts my memory. I’m sure you understand!

Larry – thanks for the information. It was my understanding that Encore does set this in a GPR, and that the settings get wiped out if the user encounters a VTS that doesn’t have the same number of tracks. Maybe something changed in CS4?
I do seem to recall that even after navigating to another menu the subtitle and audio selections were retained, at least when authoring to DVD – I haven’t checked this in a while, but the next time I’m working on such a project, I will try it again.

Larry, could you tell me what exactly is broken in Encore? The methods I outlined previously in this thread are standard workflow, and they do work.

[Brecht Wouters] “Are you suggesting that, when I give every timeline containing the animations and extras the same amount of audio tracks and subtitle tracks, even if they are empty, that should solve the problem? “
Yes, as long as you don’t change the active audio or subtitle track in your remote control. The DVD player always remembers the active subtitle and audio track – unless it hits a timeline where one, the other, or both don’t exist.
-
If you choose an audio or subtitle track in your menu and those tracks don’t exist in another timeline, those settings will be lost when you visit that other timeline.
The way around this is to have the same number of audio and subtitle tracks in every timeline – even if they are blank. This way, if you choose an audio or subtitle track, the player will retain it in memory (unless you change it via an explicit link, or using the audio or subtitle buttons on your remote control).

Nope. Subtitles in Encore are for DVD and Blu-ray only.

It’s possible if the video is shorter than the audio and you create the video loop in Premiere or After Effects.
