Encore 2.0 uses PPro 2’s playback engine for internal playback- faster systems will play back more smoothly. What type of system are you using? CPU, RAM, & display card, please.

The Return To Last Mmenu feature is a programmatic way of indicating which menu is displayed when you hit the Menu button; whichever menu was last displayed is held in the player memory, and when you hit the Menu button on a timeline set to RTLM, this memory buffer is read and the player displays the last menu shown.

Most times this does exactly what you want- the only problem of course occurring when the player has not been to a menu yet.

You must be using a version of Encore prior to 2.0.

PPro has an “optimize stills” export setting for AVIs that earlier versions of Encore do not support. The solution (other than upgrading) is to go the AVI export settings and uncheck “optimize stills”.

You don’t want to use Return To Last Menu on a First Play timeline as there’s no “Last Menu” to return to. In this case you would set the Menu Remote field for the FP timeline explicitly to the menu you want it to go to (Menu 1?).

Have you ever seen a DVD that has multiple chapter menus? Did you ever notice that the design of every menu is identical, and the difference is only the buttons are linked to different chapters? That’s what this feature does automatically: you create the initial menu design, add how many buttons you want on the menu, etc., set the button types, on the menu, then link the first button to the first chapter in your timeline.

Choose Menu > Create Chapter Index and Encore creates as many menus as you need, with all buttons correctly linked to each chapter, and the Next/Previous/Main buttons all linked. It’s a massive time-saver.

You might want to try making a chapter index menu before passing judgment. It’s very useful.

Most DVD authoring packages don’t offer the feature you’re looking for because it’s not native to the DVD-Video specification. Requires a special player be installed by the DVD player (e.g. Interactual).

Try Sonic’s site…they sell eDVD.

Try updating to Encore 1.0.1 (more stable than 1.0).

You can do it with Sonic eDVD and Encore, but not Encore alone.

It’s for use with Chapter Index menus (search the Help for that).

Basically, allows you to designate whether it’s a chapter button or an navigational button for the chapter index.
