I haven’t installed any additional codecs or programs…just good old Vegas Pro 10…(As you can probably tell, I am very amateurish at this stuff)…how does one find out teh codecs being used?

Thanks for everyone’s input so far.

(1) I have tried different fonts, different weights, and different “tracking” to see if that reduces the problem…it doesn’t seem to have an effect.

I have also created the text with Vegas’ text generators, titlers and have also used After Effects to creat text that is both static and moving (and then imported into Vegas…an example of which is in the photo)…

The above photo was rendered as an AVI file…(but I have encoded into MPEG2 as well in the past with the same problems). I am not exactly sure which codec is being used.

The “ghosting” issue doesn’t seem to be there when previewing the original media (captured as AVI) in Vegas itself. However, when the video files are ultimately rendered out and placed on a DVD the “ghosting” shows up on the TV as well.

I have rendered it out then placed the rendered product back into Vegas to view it from there…there does seem to be less of it, but it isn’t completely gone….

I have been using AVI footage and rendering into AVI (in anticipation of finalizing the “film” clips in MPEG2 for the DVD)…

I think it has something to do with the font and the font weight.

I’ve started experimenting with the font and font weight (increasing) and the ghosting ceases in many cases (although, strangely, it still appears INSIDE the letters at times, but it isn’t so bad and doesn’t interfere with what I am doing (highlight film for a football team).

Render Settings:

Video For Windows
NTSC DV Widescreen
29.970 Frame rate
Lower Field First
1.2121 pixel ration
Interleave every .250 seconds

The ghosting appears on the AVI file as viewed on my computer screen. (And then appears when the AVI file is transferred to a DVD for DVD playback…)
