Compressor 1 and Compressor 2.0 not compatible with Qmaster 2.1 (included with Shake 4.1)
If you have installed any version of Compressor other than 2.1 (part of Final Cut Studio 5.1), it is important to note that the Compressor software relies on the Qmaster software.
Shake 4.1 includes Qmaster 2.1 (installed via the Node Installer), a later version of the Qmaster distributed processing technology, and does not work with Compressor 1.x or 2.0.x.
In order to maintain compatibility with earlier versions of Compressor, Qmaster 2.1 should not be installed on the same startup volume with a Compressor 1.x or 2.0.x installation.
    Products Affected
    Compressor 2.0.x
    Compressor 1.0.x
    Final Cut Studio 1.0
    Shake 4.1
    Qmaster 2.1
    Solution
If you have installed Qmaster 2.1 on a system with Compressor 1.x or 2.0.x you can resolve issues with Compressor by upgrading to Compressor 2.1. Compressor 2.1 is available as part of Final Cut Studio 5.1. Upgrade options are available at <https://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/>.
If you are unable to apply the upgrade, you can reinstall QMaster 2.0, but first you must remove components that were updated by the QMaster 2.1 installer.

I was having this same problem, and came upon this article on Apple’s website. https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303967 I do have Shake, so I think this is my problem.

    Good luck,
    Jason

I actaully checked the timecode (drop vs non-drop) the other day. Unfortunately, not the easy fix. Two other things I have heard to try are to make sure the Ref on your deck is set to EXT, and to mixdown your audio before laying to tape. If anyone else has any other ideas, please send them.

    Thanks,
    Jason

I am having the same issue laying to a Sony DVW-500 using a Kona LHe card (have also tried with the Blackmagic SDe version as well) with FCP 5.0.4 on a G5 running 10.4.5. It is extremely random. We will have 30 :30 second spots in a timeline with :30 of black between each, and over the span of the layback to tape, we notice a drop or addition of audio frames to the layback. You can look at the sequence, and no errors are shown. We work around the problem by laying back multiple times in some cases, but as everyone knows this is extremely inefficient. How ideas?

    Thanks,
    Jason
