July 28, 2011 at 6:09 pm in reply to: Particle Text Reveal Using Motions Particle Emitter. Thanks Mark,
Yeah, I tried to not leave any areas out. Every time I talk with someone about Motion the first thing they say is “It’s not as good as After Effects”. I am really trying to show people it is.

Make sure that the keyed footage is actually transparent and not just showing on black. Masks should be transparent, I would double check your masking properties and see if needs to be set to Intersect or Replace (instead of add or subtract)

You charge what you think you are worth. If you charge too much you’re taking advantage of someone BUT all is fair in business. If you charge to little you’re taking advantage of yourself BUT all is fair in business.
I would make it a point to not charge for learning. Charge for the project yes, but if you spend 3 hours on the project and 3 hours more learning how to complete the project I would make sure to not charge (at least full price) for learning.
That’s my 2cents
When I started I was charging $20 an hour but that was 6-7 years ago. You could also do per project pricing. (calculate expected time + hourly wage = per project price)

June 30, 2011 at 9:15 pm in reply to: Optical Flares for Motion 5 Available Early August!!!“Where does it say that it is coming in August?”
– On his site he stated that it will be out late July – early August.“Red giant already has a lens flare plug-in for Motion (Not Motion 5 yet)”
– I currently use Knoll Light Flares and it is horrible on your system resources. It (at least for me) is not really worth the trouble of the few good flares they have.I also wrote some questions to Szymon and he said that it is very intuitive and will not be a hog like Knoll Light Flares.

Yeah, I just take my greenscreen footage and use Add Filter > Color Correction > Levels and drag the white all the way to the black.

There is a drop down menu. Square, circle, bezier, ect. Do not confuse this with the shape drop down to the left of it.
FYI the manual is perfect for a question like this.

I don’t know Shake but I know Motion 5 really well. Motion 5 is amazing for motion graphics, in my opinion it surpasses After Effects (without plugins) in this area. You get a lot of FREE content to put into your projects and it has realtime playback. With the new integration of rigging and publishing Motion 5 is the go to software for Lower Thrids, Titles, and Transitions.
Where it falls behind is compoisiting. Granted it has received an upgrade Chroma Keyer which is really good, it lacks major round tripping features and it also lacks support from third-party plugins (hopfully the $50 price tag helps with this)

I do just what your asking.
Mark said it best, Motion 5 is seriously the greatest buy I have seen to date.
