I like the workstation only idea, and will pursue it ASAP. Thanks, Jim

I ended up getting a new computer and using Win 7. I eventually got everything to work. I think most of my problem was caused by trying to add filters before I did some multicam work, which I was able to do with previous versions of Vegas, but not with version 12. Good luck. Jim

I can remember not so long ago when I considered Vegas Pro rock solid, nearly impossible to crash, and fun to use. I cannot say that about VP 12. Admittedly, I am still gunshy from this recent experience, but VP 12 still seems fragile, dainty, and vulnerable. I hope my experience changes with other projects, but I will be happy to kiss this current one goodbye. Again, thanks for your help. Jim

    Steve,

I was able to produce a good DVD!! As far as I can tell the major cause of the troubles I have had is the GPU acceleration. When that is turned off, things go better by far. I am able to use Excalibur, for which I am happy. I hope Sony can get the GPU deal bug free. I can tell it makes a difference without it. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. Jim

    Stephen,

    Made some progress, but…

I was able to complete the edit of a wedding project after I installed Win 7 on my new computer, updated all drivers, stopped using Excalibur (which seemed to be causing some problems on this project, at least. I am hoping to be able to use Excalibur on future projects.) Also uninstalled anti-virus program.

Now, I can’t get the project to render. It starts off fine, then stops working, sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after a few hours. Very frustrating. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim

I also have had a lot of problems with pro 12. You might want to search my posts on “not responding” and Stephen Mann’s advice. I am new to Win 8 and new to pro 12, so there may be something very basic that is causing my problems. Pro 10 and earlier versions of Vegas were rock solid for me. Jim Murphy

    Stephen,

My computer savy son-in-law wants to add an SSD drive for my computer system, but would like your thoughts on it. I sent him your last message, so he will be checking everything you mentioned. Thanks, Jim

    Stephen,

Thanks for your thoughts. I’m leaving town for a few days and will be back next week. Hopefully then I will have more time to look into the things you have mentioned.

FYI, I am using Win 8 now. I am not sure if that has bearing on the things you have mentioned.

I have been using external drives. They have worked well for me in the past, but I am really tempted to get another HD for my computer. It came with a 2 TB HD. However, it is my understanding that it is not a good idea to use the same HD for both the Win system and for the captured files etc associated with Vegas Pro 12. I am assuming there would be no advantage to partitioning the 2 TB drive into partitions and then using one of the partitions for captured files etc for Vegas. Is that assumption correct?

Thanks again for your ideas. I REALLY do want to make Vegas 12 work. But this has been so frustrating dealing with the near constant “not responding.” I’m glad one of us is approaching this rationally!! Jim

    Stephen,

I uninstalled Excalibur, then uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas Pro 12. I am still getting many instances of “not responding,” even on the new computer, and even on a new project that is relatively simple. This is so frustrating, especially because I really like the features available in VP 12. I am tempted to go back to 10. Jim

I sure hope it is not, because I really like Excalibur and have been using it for years. Do you know if it is compatible with Win 8? Again, I sure hope so. Best, Jim
