  • Crve! There is a solution for every problem. Here in the United States and around the world Amateur radio operators have what they call HAM FESTS. They are a gathering of hams who want to sell their used equipment. I am not sure what part of the world you are from but there is a good chance those radio operators have a FEST or market near you. Sometime there is a lot of used gear and sometimes there is not. In the past I have found some real real good deals on good reliable gear. You have to know what you are looking for. There is nothing wrong with used or older gear. Do you have to be compleatly portable with your camera? Do you need to have the reciever for the wireless mic mounted to the camera? If not there are good deals on SHURE wireless mics here in the Mid West USA. They are used and older BUT work like new and still have a warrenty. They run in the 200 dollar range some more some less. Some are hand held wireless Shure SM58s some SM87s lavs and bodypacks.Even used broadcast equipment is out there. Sometimes prices og gear on E BAY might be high. Others here might have some ideas too.Keep me informed.

  • Lavs are not the cure all. Many times You can’t use them outside. They are made for indoor use.Even with a windscreen, outdoor use can be a nightmare. 5 MPH winds can turn things upside down. A good professional wireless system will get you results as far as range and audio quality. If you get a body pack, get a cable that will allow you to plug a hand held mic or a shotgun into the bodypack. As far as lavs go ,I suggest cardioid is the way to go. The more cardioid the better. Omni just picks up too much useless audio and noise. You get what you pay for. Making a professional video that you can present and be proud of might cost a few bucks. If your production is being done for free you can’t pass on expenses. Its either a hobby or business. Good luck with your project. There is a mountain of used gear out there.

Nathan 2 or 3 shotgun mics will cover a 12 by 8 foot stage. You can turn them on and let them go. With wireless don’t forget you’ll need someone to turn the mic on at the mixer. There is a lot of used gear out there. But if you buy, make sure what you buy is something you won’t have problems selling in case you move to Second City. 3 or 4 shotguns and stands is less to, carry around than 8 RF mics and recievers. Have a good show.

  • Al its my mistake . Its the Shure FP410. Fast Fast and nobody is off mic.

  • Ladies and gentlemen of the jury. How do they do it on the Today Show or Nightly News? Sit down interviews with a jury or in a classroom. Shure Bros has our answer. Its called a FP 10. It has 8 inputs. Faster than any hand out there. Two of these and you are set

I consider myself lucky to have a television network behind me. Over the years a lot of different manufactures have brought their equipment in for trial and evaluation. On the street for news or production or in the studio I have had great results with Sennheiser. Their lavs – little or no mechanical noise from the cable like other manufactures. What else can I say anout the 416. If it is a big shoot I talked to the wardrobe person. Natural fabrics. Cotton cotton cotton. No synthetics to make it sound like a forest fire. A good quiet room where the set designer hasn’t used hard surfaces and you will get good results too. My own personal gear is the 416 and older MKE 2s for lavs. The power supply for the mke 2 also works with ME 80 ME 40 and ME20s {olde older}.

I am not sure if it has been mentioned before but.Have you thought about renting? That way you can compare. Some of the less expensive gear will come back to bite you and always at the wrong time. There is a lot of used gear out there too.
