I recently had my 1st go at keying having shot on DV. As time was short and my knowledge limited, I opted for the DV Matte Blast plug-in ($99) which works on Final Cut and Motion. It’s ideal for compressed footage for a quick and respectable key.

But in general, I think After Effects is your best bet for keying. Or if you’ve got money to buy a plug-in, and like me, are only familiar with Final Cut and Motion, a great keyer i’ve seen used is Primatte Keyer Pro 4, which gives great results.

Ok, cheers. That’s interesting to know.

It seems to be working ok now, after having the night to recover from it’s labours, so perhaps it’s not the preferences after all.

Thanks for that tip on hooking-up to a monitor, i’ll give that a try and if it works, i’ll donate the contents of my will to the Creative Cow Coffers.
And as for the de-interlacing the whole lot idea, well, that’s just genius in its simplicity, as i’m only going to DVD anyway. It’s staring me in the face yet I never thought of it!
I’ll give it a try, the spring returned to my step.

    Hi,

    Thanks for responding.
I’m using Final Cut version 6.0.4 and the sequence is set to DV Pal, lower field.
It’s the HDV clips which have the field error. But, I only know this through watching a DVD. I don’t have an external interlace monitor either unfortunately (I can feel the howls of derision already) and I know how important one is, but i’m working from a 24″ Intel I-mac & unless i’m mistaken, I can’t hook up to one anyway can I?
You’re right, it could be the DVD burning process. I tried exporting the sequence as a lower field mpeg2 via Compressor, but the HDV clips flickered. I did try exporting the sequence with the settings listed above (the HDV clips had the shift fields filter on, as applied by FCP) through Compressor as an mpeg2 but as progressive. Alas, the HDV clips still flicker.

    Thanks, that was incredibly helpful.

I’ve seen this effect done in a video tutorial. It’s the 1st time i’ve used it.
I read the manual before posting on here.
To be honest, it doesn’t strike me as a particularly difficult effect and at present what i’m getting is the track playing fine. The image scales to the track too, to a beat of the track.

What I can’t do is see anything in the audio graph to allow me to isolate the part of the track that i’d like the image to scale to.

Has anyone else experienced this too?

Good plug! Anything that won’t cost me?
