If this thread is still alive, I have one of these units. It works pretty good. So far my biggest complaint is the lack of information available and the lack of information in their spec requirements. I originally got it to extend the capabilities of a Dual 2Ghz G5. The manual says “Mac G5 or better with firewire”. I wasn’t able to get 8-bit SD out the pipe to an external monitor. After exhausting back and forth with their techs, I just happen to get a good deal on a Quad G5. I strapped it to that and “wow” it works. So much for the thought of trying to extend the life of a box. If I had known I would need to get another box anyway, we all know there are plenty of options.

Depending on the model of your G5s, you may be experiencing the same things. I have yet to make any cross conversions with it in HD as a stand alone unit (720P to HDCAM) but my understanding is that it does not apply compression in this scenerio. Only when it is ingested into the box.

Anyone out there using one of these besides me? I think I have serial number 262 so there has to be at least another 261 being used by someone 🙂
