Hi Jonathan.
I managed to get a short clip online.
I’d appreciate it if you had any ideas.

Hi Jeff
Thanks very much for responding. Very kind of you.
I have already built a keyboard action mapping ctrl+0 to ctrl+v, left arrow, etc etc. I should look into how this might be enhanced to include your actions.
XMLEdit looks very interesting. I’ll drop them a note. Maybe I can use something to generate an EDL and incorporate it into the FCP project file. Nice thinking Jeff 🙂
All the best,

Thanks John 🙂
Sadly, three of the UK businesses I contacted this Monday have yet to respond. I suspect everyone is in the cellar worrying about this recession that’s hitting UK businesses 😉
I’ll try your suggestion in the morning.

Thanks! I sent you a message.
Would anyone else care to weigh in?
I need this solution pretty soon – like Monday…

Thanks Alan,
I think you’re absolutely right.
I’ve been playing around with the frames before and after this event, copied them over the broken frame and set both their opacity to 50%. Even that is better that what’s there already because the vertical disruption appears to be more apparent than a worse horizontal blur.
As you rightly say this is not a smooth process and so I’ll look into the Mocha Pro option.
Argh 🙁
Meanwhile, if anything else occurs to you I’d be delighted to hear it.

Thanks for your suggestions, so far, folks!
I’ve tried Logic, Lock & Load (Frames and X), C2 Gadget Editors Tools (Camera Shake) the FCP built in SmoothCam plug-in and now I’m stuck.
I’ve attached three frames in the links below. Frame 1 is the normal (no-shake) frame, Frame 2 is when the drummer kicks, and Frame 3 is the tail off of the kick. If there was a Frame 4 is would look the same as Frame 1. And I get this every time the drummer kicks his bass drum.
Please help 🙂

That’s an interesting question.
I think that, in general, in many mainstream pictures, the pace of editing is much too fast – certainly much too fast for my brain to follow and often I leave the cinema, either tired, or refreshed from a long nap 😀
I like reading Walter Murch’s ideas on editing. Here’s a short sample:
https://www.moviemaker.com/directing/article/walter_murch_cutting_from_the_heart_3217/
It’s entitled, editing from the heart.
I film live concerts and find the editing quite challenging because there is a tendency to cut to the music. But in my experience, when I first started editing I was cutting because I thought I should. But it didn’t feel right. Now I feel my way along and only cut when I “blink.”
Might I suggest that you perhaps get a copy of Murch’s excellent book:
https://www.amazon.com/Blink-Eye-Revised-2nd/dp/1879505622
which describes the “reasons for cutting” quite perfectly.

I’ve had FCP crash on import from my Z1 when I was using the HDV to ProRes “trick”, as Shane calls it.
I suspect it’s something to do with timecode, or lack thereof, but, of course, I have no basis for this – just my software engineering suspicious mind 😀
Might I suggest that you try stopping the HDV tape deck by pressing the stop button at the point at which you have finished capturing? This is the only way that I can get FCP to respond timeously. Pressing the escape key does not work for me, and, in fact, FCP has crashed a few times at this point.
Please let me know if this works for you 🙂

Hi,
I had to do a similar thing recently to cover up a logo on a musical instrument. It seemed pretty complex because the camera was panning, zooming, and the light changed all at the same time.
I studied this tutorial, however, and managed to get a very impressive mask to cover up the logo within about 30 minutes. My client was delighted.

I have no affiliation with the author of the site containing the tutorial.
Have fun!
