Raf, thx for ur fast reply! Shubu is chomping at the bit to get this done. But how exactly do I do what you suggest? Export from FCP or compressor, and use photojpeg settings? can u provide a few steps for this tutless overworked editor? thx!!!

Kevin, all, maybe u can help. I am having a horrible time trying to get quality on youtube from this project, which comes in two versions from within FCP 7: 1) Pal SD and 2) Pal HD rescale using InstantHD.

2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKb7fyYVxZwBoth are unaccepable. The strange thing is that I can “share” an iphone version and both are perfect representations of the project, only in a smaller frame:)

Hi rafael, so this might explain my confusion, perhaps this plug was created for other NLEs, or for FCP before we had a timeline where you could throw anything on it, and scale it any which way? The picture looks the same either way. But I still feel like I am missing something (I pretty much brain dead at the moment from other more challenging projects, and thoughts of holiday vacation at the lake coming soon). Good to hear from you again!

Dave, thx for your post. Yes, that was pretty much my thought too, but they came with the project and the plugin, and wanted the output to also be larger on their large widescreen HD monitors, minimum 1440×1080, from their project shot with an SD camera. [And when I get what sounds like nutty requests, I usually just nod my head and say ok hum, sure thing, we will see what we can do, come back tomorrow.]
So I just created an Apple HDV 1080p 1440×1080(1888×1062) sequence from the project provided, and I think it looks just fine, but I not too sure what I’ve done to the video. Do you?
I think this is what they wanted, no letterbox on the computer, but letterboxed when played on SD TVs/DVDs here (which is all we have).

thx john, i just worked through the written tut and while painful, that worked. i get it now somewhat. i don’t have any animation in this project so can’t say, but when i get more time i will test for future projects, and all those have embedded motion files…cheers!

yes, I see what you mean, now that I have gone through the tut and figured this one out. I just don’t get the point of the plug really. In FCP you can do the same things starting from a CCIR 601/DV PAL 720x 5:4 anamorphic sequence, output that, and load it into a HD 1440×1080(16:9) sequence and get the same thing it seems. I don’t see any quality degradation, and this gives the client what he wants (an HD look on TV). What am i missing?

Danny, the developer sent that file directly to me, as we were working on the m2v bug fix. if you can’t get from the site, i can send to you. or 8.0.5 will probably work until it hits that filetype:)

Squarebox support has responded by examining one of my files and my logs, and says:
“I think we might have a fix for the crashing problem! It looks like a
bug in QuickTime, but we have a workaroound that we’re currently
testing.”
So stay tuned. I do remember reading and seeing problems with QT when snow leopard first came out. I remember changing all our machines to use the old QT Pro version and not the new snow QT viewer ’cause everyone hates that with a passion. Hi Dennis, thx for the tips. 1) I had gridiron installed once, many moons ago, but all traces of that are long gone, 2) permissions are ok, 3) but no idea about java or where to check that. I am running 10.6.2 so everything should be at the latest level no?

Here is the place where CATDV hangs, and this is preventing me from putting this tool into production. For testing, I am just trying to catalog some drives that I have no idea what’s on them FCP-wise, but I don’t have time to go through manually:
