  • At last!

Setting the “Working Space” to None and a 2.4 Working Gamma in Project Settings and then an Adjustment Layer with a “Color Profile Converter” with a HDTV (Rec.709) Output did the trick!

Damn AME and its lack of Color Management for Output.
Now let’s hope in 2030 we still have the same problem just for the lack of a checkbox in AME Preferences.

Thanks to all for the help!

  • Sure, and there goes the “Color Management” settings in the “Interpret Footage” too:

I think I tried already all combinations possible (Preserve RGB, No profile, Interpret As Linear Light set to Off)

    and the Project Settings: https://i.imgur.com/0RajN6B.png

Tried “Working Space” to None or other colorspace options, “Linearize Working Space” disabled, … no change.

It is just baffling that after all these years we still have to deal with this crap.
It’s not only that AME should render the project the same as AE, but even besides that… how hard is to just put a “Use Color Management for Output” checkmark in AME when it is already doing it right for the display?

  • 6 years later and I’m facing the same problem. And for the life of me I can’t get it working right.

I have these settings in my After Effects project:

But even using the Color Profile Converter (tried in each layer, in a nested comp, in an Adjustment layer… it doesn’t matter) the colors in AME shows badly washed out:

If I activate the “Enable Display Color Management” option in AME Preferences it looks ok:

But the output files look bad anyway.

What the hell am I doing wrong?

  • Cool. That’s exactly what I DON’T wanna do. Losing tons of effects I applied and fine tuning.

I hoped that there will be an option for this kind of issue. There is other softwares that allow to do this. From the top of my head I remember now 3dsmax (nothing to do with video editing, I know), where you can apply an effect to a selection of elements and you can remove the “shared” effect at any time without losing all the other effects.

  • I have a lot of clips with different effects applied. At one point I added a Basic3D effect to all the clips at one. I continued editing and applying effects here and there on different clips. Now I realize I need to remove the Basic3D effect from all the clips… 🙁

Is there a simpler way than having to go through every single clip removing one at a time?

  • Can you explain this a little further? I am a total newbie in both OSX and Final Cut.

I found the error. I had the clip Speed changed to 200% and “Frame blending” active. Unchecking “Frame blending” removed the fields and now exporting is ok. Thanks for the help.

It’s already set to Progressive, however the Field dominance was set to Lower. I chenged it to None and the fields are gone, but I still get a pixelated output video. Even in the FCP windows it looks pixelated. Check the following capture, the right window is the captured video, while the left window is the sequence.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

“High quality” is checked. My problem seems to be with the fields output instead of progressive.

I am having another problem here. I got FCP to capture and show the video ok, but I get errors exporting the video. Although I set all options to best quality and Progressive I get fields in the output video and bad quality.

Check the following captures to see how bad is the resulting video (QTplayer) comparing to the FCP viewer window:

and these are the settings I used:

I’ll appreciate some help here, because this is driving me nuts.
