The black frames, as far as I know, are not present on the timeline. I can only see them when playing the video or rendering it. I have no idea how zooming out of the timeline affects the video, but who knows.. I’ll also try new drivers.

Of course, this doesn’t really matter anymore because now my entire timeline is bugged up (posted a new thread for that subject).

I just realized something; to get the black frames to go away, I can just re-load Vegas by minimizing and maximizing. I also found out that the black frames appear when I zoom out on the timeline to see my entire 6 minute project. However, when zoomed in, the black frames never appear..

Sorry to bring this up again, but I thought this information might be helpful to find a solution.

Sounds good – and there won’t be any major drawbacks such as lower quality or long rendering times when rendering to .mp4 will there? (if i’m using .ts)

Just installed the x264vfw codec, i’ll see if it helped out later.

The .mp4 files are coming from the Hauppauge HD-PVR, a video encoder that I use to record HD files off of an Xbox 360. I am given the option of using .m2ts – I was just wondering if that would be a better choice solely because this problem might not be present with that format. I might try it sometime.

As for your last comment, i’m relatively new to the whole digital video scene – can you please explain what Cineform, etc, is?

Sorry for yet another post, but I discovered an interesting recurring situation; on crossfades and regular to-black fades, the problem seems to occur on the clip directly after said fade. Generally the clip will flicker repeatedly very quickly, then either go black or go back to normal. I discovered that when pre-loading a certain area (Shift+B), once the pre-loading hits a black flicker, the remainder of pre-load is a black screen, just like when rendering.

I also forgot to add that all clips worked perfectly fine and this problem was NOT present until recently, which is why I believe that I caused it somehow.

As a side note,to potentially avoid this problem in the future, would it be preferable to use .m2ts files over .mp4? Seeing as how i’m rendering the files as .mp4 for YouTube, would quality be lost during re-encoding,and if so, how much lower quality would it be compared to .mp4 to .mp4? Finally (sorry about all the questions), is there a file size different in .m2ts compared to .mp4, and would it take longer to render .mp4 from .m2ts than regular .mp4 to .mp4?

    Thanks in advance.

I installed Vegas Pro 9.0e, and i’m still having this problem. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

I greatly appreciate the help thus far.

Thanks for the quick reply, i’ll definitely try that – the update to 9.0e is free, right? Same codes and everything?
