Ok my problem got a work around; what I did was extracted the recorded camtasia files into the files that were recorded, then put those into After Effects and it worked. It seems that camtasia has issues with After Effects when taking their finished rendered product for me.

Hmmm I see. Before I re-encode the file, do you have any other recommendations on recording software? Something that can output a .avi that will co-operate with Adobe programs?

Edit: I put it back into avi, and also mp4. The mp4 file works correctly, displaying all the content. However I’m still sketchy on using mp4 for further editing. Still, what would you recommend for screen recording software that will lock to applications or select a certain area much like Camtasia does?

The framerate is described as 30fps in the details as well as in After Effects.

Well when I place the video in the composition, it plays well enough in the preview in normal recorded speed, but gets chopped off as if the file was only that long when in reality it was much longer.

When I dragged it to the Create New Composition Icon, it stays the same only in a new comp, still 1:14. It plays just the same, but cut off again. I rechecked the original file, still plays all the way to the end. This did happen before from another video I had recorded, so I settled with another file type but I want to know why it won’t let me use my avi files to keep it from losing quality when editing

I downloaded a different avi from online, it was only 34 seconds but it completely fits into the composition and library

Edit: Re-rendered the original avi, and importing it into after effects still leads to the same result. File size is smaller now but still ends at 1:15

It doesn’t seem to have any sort of codec, it just has Uncompressed when I recorded.

The only way it had been processed is when I recorded the video with a screen recording software called Camtasia Recorder. After it was recorded, the original video starts and ends correctly, but when it comes into After Effects, it just won’t co-operate.

To make it more concise, it was only processed by recording with Camtasia Recorder, rendered into a permanent AVI file through Camtasia Studio, then that file is what I have trouble with inserting into After Effects
