I have found a workaround that works for me! Perhaps it also works for you(?)
The workaround is extremely simple but also difficult:
All elements in the composition have to be unique.
    So
-You CANT copy a composition or graphic andd paste it. Eg. if you have a chair and wants have 2 chairs
-You must not use an instance in the project menu more than once.
-You CANT import the same AEP file more than once.
-If say, you have a file with a chair and wants to import it into another AE project, you can only do this one time. If you want more chairs and dont want to design it again from scrach, you have to take the original AE project and copy it and give it new names such as Chair2.aep chair3.aep.

fulfilling these rules, have made me overcome the problem of z depth. Great!!!I hope it will also help you!

Help! My big motion graphics projetic is on the verge of a meltdown!
Last night I happily shut down my computer, everything working well,
and this morning when I open my AE project, I too get the message:
    Invalid offscreen buffer size

But whats worse, I also get this message from my back up files, i.e previous versions of the project up to a week ago, so I have lost a lot, its simply not working!!!

I´ve tried everything: I´ve done as told in this threat, tried to turn on/off openGL, etc.

I have changed the names og the image files in the project in case there was one that was too big, so it doesnt crash because of an image size.

I have removed plugins, e.g psunami,

What the hell has happened? I guess it must be my pc or what? lack of memory? I dont think so, whatever has occurred over night or last time I closed down my pc, it has affected versions of the project done several days ago!!!
It will be hard to do all the lost stuff again, but the worst thing is not knowing what its due to,because will it occur again on the new files I have to build up?
And also very strange that this kind of error message is rarely not found on Google, image buffer messages, yes indeed, but not the one about Invalid offscreen buffer size
