Awesome I can live with that!
Gives me more reason to push my abilities even harder than before.
Thanks for the great advice!

I wish there were.. the nearest town that *MIGHT* have a studio would be Sacramento, CA – about an hour and 20 minutes away. I’m trying to run my own business at the same time so if it’s not local it really isn’t too doable in my case 🙁
There ARE a few self-initiated projects in mind, friends and I are going to be making a few things that could be used for that purpose.
I’m also doing some very lightweight fx on an indie film that has a good chance of getting into Sundance; my name/logo is in the credits. I’ll be using that in my portfolio of course hehe.
Well knowing it doesn’t have to be “official” work helps massively! We’ll see what comes up.
Any other advice?
Thanks again!

Personally I use the older nVidia Geforce 8600 GT-S OC, would love a 2nd one in SLI mode, but we’ll see where money goes.
I recently got an email from my supplier saying that I’ll have access to the new Radeon HD5800 series.. pricing is still in the air, but I’m hearing rumors from my rep that the HD5870 will be just under $400 (don’t quote me on that – it IS a rumor hehe 😀 ).
It *IS* cutting edge though, so if you get one you’ll be testing it in a sense..
Here’s a copy of the PDF my rep sent me: https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/919457/documents/sapphire%205800.pdf
If you’re interested let me know and I can put in a call and see if I can speed things up a bit pricing/availability wise.

HAHA nah we don’t need it to wash our clothes (although a plug in for that *WOULD* be handy hehe 😉 )
In my opinion the render farm section needs a complete overhaul.. shouldn’t have to go buy a separate render manager to have efficient network rendering (and don’t gimme guff about the watch folder. It’s not the most user friendly to setup. I’ve never gotten it to work yet). The command line render option does work, but you have to go execute it on each render node..
I’m contemplating breaking out visual studio and fixing the problem.. but I can’t seem to find the time to do anything about it..
If I get a couple extra minutes I’ll snag those surveys too 😀

um.. do you mean you want to fire the shockwave or make the noise?
something like the guns from starwars episode 2 or even more specifically like on the movie “STEEL” ?
Also will need to know how you plan on using it.. as long as its going in one direction on one axis it’s RELATIVELY easy to do almost anything anyone can think of. It’s when you start doing complex things, like moving it in 3D space that life becomes….. interesting.
Let us know what you’re up to so we can give you some info 🙂

hahaha AMD basher huh? No worries, Intel Core2Duo 1.8ghz (not over clocked), 2 gigs dual channel ram, nvidia 8600GT-S OC (not overclocked)
I have ONE amd box around, dual 2.8ghz, no ram. It’s still sitting in the 5U rack box on my workbench LOL Just haven’t had the time to find the right ram, not sure what I’m going to use it for. I’m considering adding it into my makeshift render farm for the time being.
My next computer will be a dual quadcore with as much ram as i can stuff into it..
Oh speaking of memory.. something a friend showed me https://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEdrv.mspx – Physical Address Extension. Let’s windows address a little bit more ram!
Haven’t done any research on it yet, but I plan to.
