February 19, 2011 at 9:14 pm in reply to: FCP Files missing when transfering from Hard DriveThanks so much for the help. MM was the answer for sure and I have learned a big lesson. Around 400 HD vids will need to be “media managered” but yes, all of the media from the rather short vids are stored nicely together. Excellent. Many thanks

Perhaps I can ask some advice.I have 2TB filled on a 4TB drive. The plan NOW would be to export FROM that drive TO that drive using Media Manager. Open file on new computer and test. If the new file is good, I can delete the first one from the external HD.
Sound right?Lastly, I have hundreds of videos. Can I bulk export with Media Manager?
Thanks to all so much for such quick responses..currently grinding teeth over hear hunched over the mac 😛

Lot’s of great stuff…much of which I don’t understand 🙂 🙁
But greatly appreciated!I have searched these forums and can’t seem to find the step by step on Virtual Clusters. Would love some help on that if possible.
Also, I am not sure about this: ” Make sure to set the frame size and pixel aspect to your required specs, then save the custom preset.”
How do I know which is the best frame/pixel?I have done two tests:
1. Created a new project and put all of my sequences there. Right Clicked “send to compressor”. Result was a lower quality vid that I had expected. I recorded in HD.
2. From Batch Export to Quicktime (custom) H.264. Result was the video was distorted. Like looking in the mirror at the fun house!
I really appreciate the time you have all taken to give me a hand. It is clear that I need to learn a lot…as a teacher, it is humbling to be on the OTHER side of instruction.
Thanks

Thank you for your response. I would love the best quality at the fastest rate. Can you lay out the procedure?
Thanks

Thanks for the replies. This is for sequences…
My original thought was to “batch export” from FCP and skip compressor. Thoughts?
Thanks to all once again

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate the time. I looked at those solutions and they seem pretty expensive.
2 Follow up questions:1. I was thinking of buying 2 units of 2x2tb each. One would be the first BU and the second BU for the BU.
They would both be the type of drive that just fills and then goes to the next one. Cost is around 800.00 from OWC2. I am going to copy 1.5 Tb from one external to another. Can I just drag and drop and WAIT?
Thanks folks. Very grateful for your expertise 🙂

Perfect!
Thank so much for taking the time to answer this! Love this forum, in fact, not sure what I would do without it.
I understand and will move forward.
Thanks again for the wisdom 🙂

HI!
Thanks so much for the post. I think I am confused…the machine is not on a network. I am simply restoring some FCP files that I needed to get rid of to clear space. When I restore, the videos run fine but when I check the scratch disc in System Settings, it is reading some OTHER folder.
When I check the actual project folder, everything is in it’s place.
For some reason FCP doesn’t “remember” that I had set the scratch up correctly. It certainly knows it somehow because the files work but if I was to work on the project again, I would need to reset the scratch disc.
I am new to this and investing a great deal in the vids, deleting them today was hard but recovering them from time machine was bitter sweet.
Hoping for some sage advice.
