I am a long time Media 100i user who edits multi camera weddings exclusively. I like the Media 100 interface because it is easy.

I need to move on to a new NLE system where I can edit with more than two video tracks. I was close to buying FCP, then drawn back to Media 100HD for the familiarity and now I considering Avid Express Pro.

I worry that Media 100 is too unstable of a company and it looks like Avid with their multi format is progressive. I will be in HDV probably in a year.

EASY is very important to me as I am more of a shooter than and editor. I hate editing and need something simple and fast. I have Attention Deficit Disorder real bad.

Can anyone advice me which is the easiest to work on? I do very few special effects and want a system that is as dummy proof as possible. I want to also edit fast. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Okay, well I did my own tests.

I digitized my last job with y/c and re-digitized it again with firewire DV. First of all, when digitizing with y/c I really missed having the deck control or time code I had with DV. The digitizing did not automatically stop at the end of video like it does when digitizing with DV, y/c stopped at end of tape.

Next I put both clips on time line and cut between. I noticed dramatic differences. The y/c audio was much too low, also the video was more saturated, darker and no detail in blacks. Over all, I prefer the DV firewire.

    Thanks to everyone who responded.

Okay, I am confused. I have a G4 Mac with M100ixr vers 7.3 w/ P6000 board. What will give me the best quality, digitizing and outputting? Using my firewire in/out the P6000 board or using the SVHS y/c cable in the breakout box? I was told the SVHS y/c cable was better quality than the firewire. Please help, thanks.

In fact can someone tell the order from best to worst quality? I thought it was: component, y/c, firewire, and composite.

July 11, 2005 at 5:31 am in reply to: Upgrade to Media 100 HD?

My retailer offered me $1000 discount for upgrading to HD. I am waiting until they have a way to edit DV with it. I have M100ixr w/ vers 7.3. I don’t know if that matters.

Thanks to everybody for your help.

If I go with either the sw or HD, do I still need my P6000 M100i/xr and is it an upgrade to my board or is it just software such as FCP?

I am happy to buy a G5 2.7 I want the ease and familiarity of M100 without paying too much. A n ew G5 and $1000 is an easy choise to make. Is the $1000 for sw for everyone or just for upgrades and what will the approx cost estimated date for HD?
