Cynical…no!, incredible info…yes! There are many lessons in your post. I did see the review site last night. I agree with you about wanting to work with the client. I’d rather walk away, then walk into a nightmare. I’ve fired a few clients, one recently as last year and he begged me to stay on…from there on, I was in control.
I was actually hoping it could be shot MOS, at least no music, and add the music later. It has to be difficult to balance the music with the talent. Not sure what the instructor/host has in mind…hope to meet her this week.
Are those cameras DVCAM or Beta? Is DVCAM acceptable? Since I only own one, I would have to rent another. Did you constantly move the jib and have the other camera on a tripod or handheld? This client says “only 1 camera is needed”, but I disagree if only for insurance. This is going to be done in a Gym, hope they have high ceilings.

As I was typing this last night, I said to myself “I hope Mark replies”. Thank you Mark. I guess after being a one man band for so many years, it’s a little intimidating to bring “outsiders” in: will they make a good impression on client?, will they be easy to work with or be overly headstrong with their ideas? Up to this point, I have been doing my own make up…that is just to remove shine.
I’ve always believed in hiring people who have stronger talents in certain areas…because in the end, it just makes you look better. I do this all the time with graphics and 3D animations, but haven’t so far with production.
I have two tech questions regarding this potential project:
1) I have a high end DVCAM WSL 450 camera, is DVCAM quality suitable for marketing a DVD? and 2) I noticed on exercise informercials that some use a wireless Lav, but most must use a shotgun as there is no sign of a mic under their tight outfits. Can you get quality sound with the mic being so far away from the Talent? Since this is an exercise video, the host will be constantly moving, which yields the possibility of the mic rubbing on her clothes. Thanks for any input and thank you for your first reply.

Do you do animated buttons for Chapters? That’s another function that is hit or miss for me. Sometimes it hangs after even it completes rendering all the frames and if you hit cancel, you get a blank screen. I’ll call Adobe one of these days

If you do a Google there is tons of info about it and how to do it. The reason I brought it up, was that another user who was having the same issues, thought that the two were related, but it happened to me using the switch or not. You can access more of your Ram, but it could lead to memory issues with your system. do you get out of memory warnings when you try to transcode? I do sometimes, then sometimes it just hangs. In November this worked, something changed since then.

I’m right there with you. The fact that it happened on two different computers and different projects means it’s a real problem. If I don’t transcode or render motion menus, I’m OK…but that’s what makes DVD’s look professional and unique. Have you tried Jeff’s advice: make sure all files are reverted to their original state, then delete the file in RegEdit and restart. There are times when this works for me and times it doesn’t. Wish Joe Bowden was around.

Welcome to my life…it has been an absolute nightmare using CS3. It hangs on Transcode or hangs when rendering Motion Menus. If I start a new project, clear out Media Cache in Regedit, then I can sometimes burn one DVD. This happens on both a desktop and laptop. I’ve been on board since version 1 and I’m a huge Adobe fan, but my heart is in my stomache everytime I go to create/burn a project…no way to work. What’s odd is that projects that worked a few months ago, will no longer transcode, I get out of memory errors or it simply stops transcoding and hangs.

Actually after burning one successful DVD on my laptop, I get the same message, out of memory and it just hangs on the transcode. It happens with other AVI’s as well.

Hi, Keyword….1 working DVD. I cannot duplicate my success, it hangs up on transcoding the AVI, then I get out of memory errors. I’ll call Adobe next week.
I was able to burn a perfect DVD on my laptop, so this is computer related or Matrox related.

I followed your suggestions and reverted the transcodes, deleted cache in registry,but when I tried to transcode all at once, it froze on the avi, then I went back and did it separately and it worked. I was able to burn a dvd. So at this point I’m not sure if its the 3gb switch turned off or everything else or the combo thereof. I’m going to go back and see if I can burn the previous projects.
Also, when you edit a menu in photoshop, what is the process for getting back into Encore? 8 times out of 10 after I save the changes in PS and go bck to Encore, it crashes Encore. This has been happening since version 2 on a different computer. Thanks for everything. Jeff
