I think I found a solution that requires routing the AAF through Davinci Resolve
I too got a 12 GB AAF file from a post facility so here’s the steps I took:
1.) Import the AAF file into Avid (this will create new clips in the “Avid Media Files” folder)
2.) From that linked sequence export a new AAF file (doesn’t need to have embedded files)
3.) Import that new AAF file with the linked media to Davinci Resolve
4.) Export an XML file from Davinci Resolve (not fcpx)
5.) Import the XML file into Premiere Pro
6.) Media in the XML file should link to your Avid Media Files folder not the AAF
7.) Move the Avid Media Files into your properly organized PPro project folder (optional burn to Avid users)
